It couldn't be any worse than most of the episodes from the last few series.... could it?
If it's as good as the South Park movie then I'll be there
theamericanjesus once again, like a bullet as a friend, tell me: can that be all there is?
as a terrestrial viewer iv not seen the newer series, beyond season 11, so i cant comment

No, no, no, no....
The Simpsons works because it is a 20 minute self-contained story. Some aren't as good as others. But the pure gem episodes work because they contain snappily segued humourous scenes and, before the joke gets 'old', the ep is over. The not so good eps usually are like that because the snappy humourous scenes are few and far between. That, and the humour is less dry and ironic, as in the great eps, and more slapstick and contrived. I fear a movie would be the same, with lulls that detract from the fun and leaving the viewer unfulfilled and disappointed.
I may be totally wrong but, in this instance, I wish they'd just left The Simpsons as it was. A good TV show. I'd much prefer it to be a big fish in a small pond than try to over-reach and get panned by the critics.
i think The Simpsons works too well as a series to make a good film. to me it looks like it could be like the Rugrats movie or whatever, so although i like the series, i can't say i'm too fussed about a film

Lets hope it's got a 12 certificate so I won't have to sit through it with my kids, who think it's the funniest show ever
I'll reserve judgement until I see it. South Park should have been a disaster as a film, but it was uncle beeping brilliant. With an emaciated handful of exceptions, the last few seasons of The Simpsons have been consistently dire, so things can hardly get worse!

I'm with Byron in reserving my judgement i think.
The Simpsons is a classic of modern television, but whether the writers are good enough to bring it to the big screen with style and substance remains to be seen.

So long as they do something different with it for the film (as Matt has suggested they will) then there's no reason why it can't be great. If it just turns out to be an hour-and-a-half long episode, then there's really no point.
As South Park and Beavis & Butthead have proved, movies of cartoon series' can work and be *very* funny!
