Just heard this myself... I can't believe it.
I think this has stunned me more than the death of any other celeb in recent years. I can't believe we won't hear him again...

I was especially shocked to learn this as the article I read said he was on holiday in Cuzco in Peru, which is exactly where I've just got back from (Cuzco was our last stop there)! The altitude there makes your heart race even doing simple things like walking up a flight of stairs.

I met John Peel one year at the Reading Festival ('94 or '95 can't remember) Me & Jazz had backstage passes along with free beer passes too. John Peel came and sat next to us and then we got chatting. He was gutted 'cos he couldn't get free beer like us, lol. We ended up getting him many bottles and getting nicely drunk (read that as w***ered ) with him. Great guy

radio will never be the same again, his little ravings on Home Truths brought a smile to my face time and time again.

What a sad loss to the world.

That did come as a huge shock when I found out. Though I personally was never a big fan, I've always respected him. His enormous contribution to the music scene over the last 30 or 40 years is obvious and for that he deserves to go down in history, to be remembered for decades to come.

Very sad news.

Still can't believe the news....a legend of radio and a really nice bloke. When they played clips of him on the radio today it was really weird because i'm so used to hearing him on the radio that you think it's live for a 10th/second then you go "Oh yeah...he's dead"

Really gutted.

I was shocked when I heard the news

It appears there will be a public ceremony in Bury St Edmunds (near to where John Peel lived) on Friday 12th November. This will be followed by a private ceremony.
