Spiderman - Very Minor Spoilage (If you can call it that)

#Spiderman, Spiderman..Does whatever a spider can#

Just back from a preview of this and thought I'd let you all know how it was.

I was quite keen to go and see this, and must admit, I loved the majority of it. There were just a minor thing that kinda got up my nose a bit. Spidey's web shooters in the comics etc were man-made by himself. In the flick they are organic..ie they were part of him. And the final scene with Peter Parker/MJ? Oh my god!? Why did he turn her down?? There better be a good reason in the sequel!

Cast-wise I thought it was quite good. Good to see the cameo of Bruce Campbell & Lucy Lawless (Blink and you'll miss Lucy though) too

. Tobey Maguire in what I guess you could say was his first major lead role type thing did quite well. The matching of him and Kirsten Dunst (*swoon*)

was a good choice also. No, it's not because I thought she was drop dead gorgeous either.

The fight scenes were well coreographed and quite realistic. The end fight between Spidey and The Green Goblin is a sight to behold. And not forgetting the average bad guy butt-whoopin' too.

The film ended perfectly lining itself up for the next sequels. I loved the soundtrack to this too, brilliant to see Uncle Ben listen to a bit of Sum 41 as well

(I stayed to the end of the credits to hear and see what they used hehe)

All in all a tad overhyped, but a superb flick all the same. There's a good chance I'll go and see it again as it's an excellent way to spend a couple of hours.. Or 2 and a quarter hours if you want to get pedantic. This is one person who will whole-heartedly recommend this one and wait with baited breath for the sequels.

If I think of anything else, I'll update the post.

I saw a pretty empty preview today too.

I think Peter loves her but the gist of it is that he didnt want to turn her down but people he gets close to are put in danger so he would rather keep her safe. Im sure it will be carried on in the sequel. Of course I think he is insane.

I Agree the cast was good it could have been so bad with the names that were being banded about for Peter Parker. I think when Raimi became attached to the project so was Freddie Prince Jr

As already said nice to see Bruce Lucy and Sam Raimi's brother Ted.

Damm wish I had spider powers so Mary Jane would like me(K Dunst looked good with red hair)

I loved the film. It's definetly my favourite movie of all time. It's great to finally see Spidey on the big screen. The entire thing was fantastic. I taught the effects were brilliant. The best thing is that i lucked out and got to see it for free

, which as you can imagine was bloody fantastic. As for the ending when Peter walks away from MJ, i have to say i taught he was bloody insane.
Did anyone see the blink and you'll miss cameo from Stan Lee? Man, that guy manages to get into most Marvel movies. I think he's filmed cameo's for Hulk and Daredevil.

Just give away the ending why don't ya. Good job that it would be kinda obvious if you've ever read any of the comics i suppose.

Red "A world of No!"

A no brainer, but a fun way to pass two and a bit hours. Lotsa giggles and several real laugh out loud sequences, some great CGI, good acting and dialogue. And no real need to already know the story. I'd recommended it.

Saw the film over the weekend, and liked it for the most part. I was not sure what they were trying to say with the bridge scene: I figure either that New Yorkers are good people and will ultimately recognise and support the hero; or that New Yorkers are so stupid they'll throw curbstones at the loony with the rocket launcher.

I prefered the Star Wars movie, and I didn't think that Spiderman (the Movie) was as good as the 1989 Batman film.

That scene was deliberately inserted post September 11th, by the way...

Anyway, the film. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. Great performances from Tobey Maguire, mmmmmmmmm Kirsten Dunst, and Willem Dafoe (who, it has been noted, was quite scary enough pre-transformation

). It was very cheesy in parts, although this seemed to be deliberate, and overly sentimental, ditto, but overall it was great fun.

Having read interviews with Sam Raimi, apparently the studio wanted to have all the stuff about how he came to be Spiderman in brief flashback, a la 'Batman'. For my money, they were the best parts of the film, but also, he says he wanted to make the story as much about Peter Parker as it is about Spidey, and I think that worked really well.

I agree a lot of the best bits were the PP bits rather than the Spiderman bits

So yeah it did work well that way

The human side of the story about loss/responsibility sort of thing was done really well and far outshone the CGI fighting stuff imho.

No way, batman is boring and he needs a side kick, spidey works on hisown most of the time and hes younger and cooler, batmans jsut a boring old man who goes against boring bad guys, spideys bad guys are more insane and dangerous, i mean the penguin, a short fat bloke with an umbrella is easy to defeat compared to venom a mad black gooey type of spiderman whos really strong and can do a hell of a lot more damage.

Now its no secret that I fancy the webslinger, and have done for years (the *actual* Spiderman character NOT Tobey Maguire), but when Venom is around and he "possesses" Spiderman - I'm gone

On a more movie related point, I loved it and thought it was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Willem Dafoe was deliciously evil throughout, the comedy had me laughing aloud and the radioactive/genetically engineered spider switch was necessary to keep the story up-to-date and relevant.
What I had problems with was how much CGI was used. I get that there were sequences which would have been all but impossible to create with live actors and/or stuntmen, but can we not even have an actor do the simple bits and the close ups? When he's chasing the carjacker and is climbing the walls is the most obviously crap bit of CGI since the Rock at the end of Mummy Returns and the amazing shrinking-no-longer-in-scale ninja vampire types at the beginning of Blade 2

Overall the movie was fantastic and I can't wait to see it again, which with any luck may be this weekend

Yeah, but it's the hired goons with machine guns that make the challenge. And face it, The Penguin could _buy_ Venom.

"Here, little Spider-Freak. Nice juicy big flies."

And one patent-pending Penguin personality pulveriser later, Batman has to spend, ooh, all of about a minute and a half working out Venom's weaknesses before he beats the living tar out of him - as it were.

It's all about the little grey cells, my friend. Spider-Man's smart, Batman's a genius, and so it goes.

I'd like to see Spider-Man keeping the peace in Gotham/New York with an army of giant robots when he's seventy-five, let alone deal with Captain Marvel one-on-one.

Gotham City is New York, but for manly superheroes, instead of downy-cheeked, arachno-steroided children. This is the city that _Superman_ can't handle.

You think a big crushing guy would take Batman? How many times has he dropped Killer Croc or the like? As for Rhino vs. the Bat-Knights? Well, that's a real short fight right there.

Oh; and in Marvel vs DC, sadly Spidey and Bats never clashed. But those fights were decided by a popularity contest. Each bout was this big slug-fest, ending in a flash of light/cloud of dust, and the guy who readers voted to win stood triumphant - meaning they only had to tailor one panel to the result of the vote.

I mean, Wolverine beat Lobo, and Lobo is indestructible.

In similar but more general polls, the result is always the same: Whoever you are, whatever your schtick is, Batman will figure your weakness, and bring you down. Whether you've got the proportional strength and speed of the mighty arachnid, or you're an indestructible alien from the doomed planet Krypton, or the mightiest mortal in the world.

Only guy ever to slow Batman down - okay, aside from Bane, but in a crossover sense - was the only human being in history who actually is angrier and works harder: Judge Joseph Dredd.

Okay; and the Predator. And maybe Dracula. But not Jimmy Olsen's over-pumped, web-slinging stand-in

And I realise that parts of this thread might want to move to comics now.

Also a lot of these A vs B superhero/villain things depend purely on where the characters are in the story arc or even simply who's book they're in.

Bane beat Batman, till it was time for Batman to make a comeback and beat Bane.

Sabretooth and Wolverine go round and round in circles and circles and circles...

And yes this ALSO probably needs moving to Comics.
