Got nothing to do at night then? Just let me know how that Empire Records DVD is
Rocky Balboa - American Icon
I watched all 5 Rocky films over the last 2 nights and was looking to see what people thought of them.
Which is your favourite, do you even like the films, should there be a 6th film?
All these questions and more...I'll write more when I've got time
*toddles off back to work*

the rocky films made me hate all things boxing and stallone and i remember as a kid i used to watch the saturday boxing and wrestling with complete interest but those films just annoyed the hell out of me along with that man and his grating voice i think the only film i stomach to watch him in now is Demolition Man and that's mostly for Snipes' character.
i liked the first one....didn't mind the second....after that, its just a bit silly really isn't it?
unecessary in my opinion! the sequel was fine but like...another 4? why?! heh
my ex boyfriend, loved the films and eventually persuaded me to watch his boxset of them only for me to express this opinion heehee...he werent happy!

Thought I'd expand my thoughts on this a little more...
Rocky 1 - Storyline is good, a guy who has little going for him given that one in a million chance 'American Dream' and I like the way the different relationships are touched upon(Rocky & Adrian, Rocky & Pauly, Rocky & Micky, Adrian &
Pauly)
Throughout the whole series the characters stay basically the same as they are portrayed in this first movie..the only major character differences I noticed were that Rocky became less chauvinistic throughout the series and Adrian became more forceful and confident. The difference in Rocky's character was probably prompted by a change in societys values over the years and Adrians character change could be explained as Rocky having helped her gain that confidence in herself by the fact he relys on her intelligence and values her opinions over his own. I even like the ending of this film..the fact Rocky doesn't win doesn't detract from what he's went through and what he's acheived and it sets the second film up nicely.
Rocky 2 was good as well. It had to have the ending it did, I'm guessing there'd have been a mini-riot by filmgoers if it had ended with Rocky not winning. The storyline is good again and the ending is pretty memorable..the way the both fall right at the end and Rocky gets up just before the 10 count.
Rocky 3 was the best of the five for me. Clubber Lang is such a brilliant character and well played by Mr T(aka BA Baracus) The story is interesting and Micky's death is sad. It's got a kickass soundtrack by Survivor and is the first Rocky film to have the song that everyone associates with Rocky, "Eye Of The Tiger".
Rocky 4 is where everything starts to go a bit downhill. Trying to capitalise on the Cold War it's East meets West when Rocky takes on Ivan Drago. Drago killing Apollo in the exhibition match is a bit extreme and it cheapens the story...Rocky supposedly wants to fight Drago in revenge for killing Apollo..but why?? The way it's implied is that Rocky wants Drago in the ring so he can kill him for revenge but thats not what happens...yeah Rocky wins the fight but what sort of revenge is that?? I feel it would have been better if Apollo had been crippled in the fight with Drago which would have still left the revenge angle but taken away the extremness of death from it. To me Rocky's win at the end of this film is pretty hollow and detracts from the storyline. It does have one of the coolest lines though..
Ivan Drago:- "I vill break you"
Rocky 5...oh my god..what did they do..Stallone's son is cast in this as Rocky's son so that immediatley rings the danger bells but this film just reeks. The ending is rubbish and it leaves you feeling unfulfilled. I feel it would have been better if Tommy Gunn had realised The Duke was taking him for a ride, he'd apologised and went back to having Rocky as his manager and Tommy, with Rocky in his corner, had to fight one of Duke's men for the title with Duke's guys pulling out all the stops to win and Rocky telling Tommy that he's got what it takes, Tommy overcomes the odds and Rocky passes the torch..didn't happen though and we're left with a really damp ending to the Anthology.
Do I want to see a Rocky 6...hmmm...yes and no...I'd like some closure on the whole thing but how would you storyline it?? I'd *hate* to see Rocky back in the ring, I'd rather he did the protege thing even if it was just with his son *ick* ...So any more opinions??
