Enter The Matrix video game financial details
Want to know how much the Wachowski brothers got for the video game rights to the Matrix? See http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/wachowski10.html and following pages for details. All thanks to documents made public by Larry Wachowski's divorce! Man, no wonder Infogrames were so intent on hyping this heap of mediocrity to the hilt!

All rather scary isn't it? A games industry contact says Enter The Matrix is basically what saved Inforgrames who were in serious trouble at the time, their credit rating being at junk levels at the time. However, because Infogrames was in such dire straits, Enter The Matrix also killed a bunch of other games (and in some cases, developers) which were also signed to Infogrames but didn't get the support and promotion they required because almost all resources were set aside for Enter The Matrix.
Me wonders how much Larry "lost" when his assets were temporarily frozen, while the uber-bucks were coming in during the success of Reloaded...
Am I the only one who quite liked the game then?

Nope. However, the people I know who liked it are diehard Matrix fans and one of them did say she accepted it was an average game with excellent proudction values.
I found it quite dull
Both to look at (the ingame graphics) and to play. It's not that it was godawful, it was just insipid which made it a massive let down given the effort that went into all the video and cut scene material.
The gfx weren't too bad, but not something I'd have expected given all the money thrown at it
The biggest failing was the gameplay, it was *so* repeatative, and the biggest letdown was the final flight home! Completely no skill involved at all, it looked like something they bolted on a couple of hours before they pressed the gold rtm
From what I've read, Matrix Onlineis pretty much a carbon copy of star wars galaxies with matrix maps/characters. Cashing in much?

That's way further than I got. I got somewhere in the airport with Ghost, lost the will to live, got distracted by something else and never went back to it.
I played this 'bout a week or so ago, and thought it was alright. Problem was, I thought it was a bit too rushed-looking for something with all that money and hype attached to it. OK, so I'm not quite a die-hard Matrix fan (I fall short of that by not camping outside of the cinema for 6 months in advance... no wait, wrong franchise! ) but the fact that it supposedly had loads of vital plot details in there was one of the biggest attractions, but there aren't that many of those either. To be honest, if it didn't have the films backing it up, it wouldn't have sold any where near as well, but that seems to be the done thing with movie-game tie-ins.
