Shrek the Third is a good, solid cartoon romp, and if you’ve enjoyed the first two, you’ll probably enjoy this. But while it is good, it’s not great, and the shine is definitely wearing off.
Fiona’s Father, King Harold, is dying and Shrek has been selected as his rightful air. Not wanting to give up his swamp, Shrek sets off on a quest to bring back Arthur, Fiona’s cousin, and next in line.
The animation is of a very high quality once again, bringing the colourful fairy-tale land of Far Far Away to life. The voice acting is also good. Justin Timberlake is pretty good as Arthur, Rupert Everett makes a good snivelling villain and Eddie Murphy steals it as Donkey.
I laughed in plenty of places, but I did feel like there were more slapstick jokes this time to make up for a lack of other humour. Shrek has always had it’s fart jokes, but it’s ramped up a bit here.
The formula still works this time, and I did laugh plenty of times, but the spark isn’t as bright and I find myself thinking that I won’t bother to see 4 at all.
