Written By: Diablo Cody Directed By: Jason Reitman Starring: Ellen Page, J.K. Simmons, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman Rating: 12A Tag-Line: A comedy about growing up... and the bumps along the way.
Last night Sarah and I went to see Juno. I've heard buzz about it for a while from the american release and it's been nominated for four Oscars (screenplay, director, actress aaand er, i can't remember the fourth one).
Anyway, the hype was all justified. I loved it, and I'd say it was the best comedy i've seen for years. Just offbeat enough, excellent, witty screenplay and some great performances from Ellen Page (Juno) and the supporting cast. I also really enjoyed how it straddled the line between showing how irresponsible getting pregnant at 16 is and how it can affect a young person's life, but also how it doesn't make them idiots or less of a good person. It was really effective, and again, I loved it.
Wasn't sure whether to see this one. You've convinced me to give it a try.
Just saw "No Country for Old Men" over the weekend. Quite...bizarre.

I've still not seen No Country For Old Men, but I really want to. I suspect I may miss the cinema release though, which is a shame. I want to go see Rambo this weekend but lil_miss won't go! Might have to go on my tod.
I'm with lil_miss on that one. I don't think there's much that could get me to a Rambo movie. Of course, I've never seen any of them, so I can't even say why. Just a gut reaction, probably more to Sylvester Stallone than anything else.
I don't think you'll miss much by not seeing No Country for Old Men on the big screen. It's the kind of movie that would probably be just as effective on DVD. The only thing you'll miss is the wonderful shots of the West Texas landscape. They're actually stunning, and they really do give you a good feeling for the vast and desolate area where the story is set. Of course, I spent about 1/4 of the movie looking down at the floor, cause I'm not one for blood and guns and violence. Yeah, I know, what was I doing seeing that movie. I thought it would have other redeeming features.
Aside from Juno, I think I want to also see There Will Be Blood, and I can't believe I'm even considering seeing a movie with that name. But I've heard good things about it. I guess I'll be looking at the floor at lot during that one, too.
At least with Juno, I can actually look at the screen through the whole movie.
