Thanks wes, GMail rocks. But does anyone know if the storage is 1000Mb or 1GB (1024MB), sorry, it's just a techie at work here
Excellent, thanks Wes.
Phoenix, I'm pretty sure it's 1000 rather than 1024, a little unhelpfully Google say:

And in quite a few places they reference 1000MB rathe rthan 1024, so I'm pretty sure that it's 1000.
One thousand megabytes. That's one gigabyte.
Just read on the BBC news site that hotmail is increasing the space from 2MB to 250MB from July for the free accounts. (2GB for the paid accounts)
I mailed (didn't notice you saying you were all out 'till I actually sent the email... duh! )
And Yahoo have increased the default size of their free accounts to 100MB. Hope their infrastructure can cope with it, as Yahoo and Hotmail have the communities and groups that generate a lot of traffic for their email accounts -- unless they do something clever (which I doubt) they could end up far more overloaded than Google.

So what makes it so amazing?

This is interesting. I thought Google had been getting a fair bit of negative press about this service because they were going to scan each e-mail and append content related adverts to the messages and people weren't too happy about that.
I read this a good few months ago, so they might have back-tracked on that idea...

8. Are there ads in Gmail?
There are no pop-ups or untargeted banner ads in Gmail. Gmail users only see relevant text ads, similar to those on Google search results pages . The matching of ads to content is a completely automated process performed by computers. No humans read your email to target the ads, and no email content or other personally identifiable information is ever provided to advertisers.
Ads are matched using the same technology that powers the Google AdSense program, which already places targeted ads on thousands of sites across the web by quickly analyzing the content of pages and determining which ads are most relevant to them. Here's a sneak peek of how ads look in Gmail.
9. What is Gmail's privacy policy?
Google respects our users' privacy. For details, please read our Gmail Privacy Policy. You may also want to read more detailed information on Gmail and privacy.
