MacWorld San Francisco... with Intel Inside!
Apple's MacWorld expo took place last week and it proved to be a big one. Lots of announcements, ranging from interesting to huge.
On the software side, Steve Jobs used his keynote speech to unveil new iterations of both the iLife and iWork suites, adding the '06 moniker. iLife has been upgraded the most, all the applications have been given a unified UI, iPhoto has been rewritten so it's faster and the RAW image processing is better. The biggest bit is the new program iWeb, which can be used to produce web sites with Apple's trademark style easily and quickly. They can then be uploaded to .mac or some other webspace.
iWork has been upgraded to Pages 2 and Keynote 3, gaining 3 charts and presentations, tables and other assorted goodness.
The biggest announcements were on the hardware side though. Steve Jobs announced that the transition to Intel processors is well ahead of schedule, indeed he announced that the first Intel Macs are available, now! The first was an iMac, using Intel's core duo processor to make the slickly designed iMac as fast as it is stylish. It's apparently blazingly fast now.
The second was the MacBook Pro, which is the new name for Apple's Powerbook range of laptops. The MacBook Pros also use the core duo processor, and they gain greater battery life, more speed as well as built in iSight cameras for web chats and videoconferencing.
It's a good time to be a Mac fan, wouldn't you say?
