Was thinking of getting this, but with even the cheapest model being more expensive than even the premium 360, I am having second taughts. Also add in 2 games (3 or 4 since shops seem to force bundles) and your almost better off buying a new PC.

Doesn't seem to be anything here new at all.

Also the motion sensor thingy.... Doesn't seem to be as welll taught out as Nintendo's and seems to have been put in because Nintendo had it.

410 quid for only the 60gb version without any games. Thats going to be one expensive christmas present! To enjoy the thing you also need at least 1 - 3 games which adds another 40 - 120 quid. The economy might be going well but I can't see many parents getting their kids such an expensive games console. Although the fact it's as blu-ray player as well might pull some people in (as those standalone players probably won't be cheap either), but they really have to create one heck of a value proposition to warrant that kinda money!

Especially if you consider that Microsoft will probably introduce it's first price cut on the XBox 360 just before the PS3 hits the shelves. Really going to be interesting to see whats going to happen with the whole battle between the PS3 & XBOX360. Sony will of course win in Japan and probably the rest of Asia but at the moment I really can't see the PS3 becoming very popular in the EU / US with that kinda price tag.

It gets worse, the smaller package doesnt only have a smaller hard drive, but lacks wifi capability, memorystick and SD card ports, and HDMI output

$599 for the 'decent pack' which translates as £450 I think, plus a game and a second controller, it really adds up!

Nah, I think the parents will cave in!!!

For me the cost is pretty much irrelevant, that's the sort ofprice for a top of the line graphics card, let along the rest of the PC and a decent monitor. Loads of kids get PCs for Christmas...

What'll decide if I get one will be the games that are available for it. If the Final Fantasy series continues on PS rather than Xbox, if GTA continues on PS etc etc, then to me there's not much choice in which one to get.

These days you only need one good game to last a few months unless you play the thing 24/7 as they take so long to complete in full. It sounds like quite a good deal to me if the hype is lived up to!!!

Well, GTA 4 was announced for the Xbox 360 at Microsoft's E3 conference, it'll be out in October. Sure, it'll be on the PS3 later on, but it'll look pretty much exactly the same on both systems.

Square Enix's support isn't as good on the 360 yet, and Final Fantasy XIII, which was announced (and a trailer shown) at Sony's conference, won't be on the Xbox 360. No bother to me, cos i'm not a Final Fantasy fan, but there are a lot of people who, like you, will be put off.

Meh on Final Fantasy, never saw the appeal of them.

The price puts me off big time, I have no problem buying it if I wanted. Its has some minor performance advantages over the Xbox 360 and Blu ray (actually all next gen dvd) is pointless right now to me. Especially since we don't know which format will win out. Hopefully someone will slap together a dual HD-DVD/Blue ray drive so we don't have to deal with this format war rubbish. Will pick one up a PS3 once the price comes down.

The PS3 does sound very expensive but as someone who sometimes works with Square Enix and a fan of Final Fantasy I think it's definitely worth the cost. I'm hoping that when it comes out in the U.S., during the pre-holiday season, that there will be accompanying sales and discounts.

The Japanese arm of search-engine giants Yahoo! have recently completed a poll of 20,000 or so of their users over the price of the PS3.

8% (1548 votes) - "I will buy the console on the launch day even if the price is high"
19% (3725 votes) - "Undecided due to the high price"
25% (4814 votes) - "I will definitely buy when the price is reduced"
26% (5171 votes) - "I will possibly buy when price is reduced"
24% (4742 votes) - "Presently have no interest to buy"

If this relatively small sample is anything to go by, then it looks like Sony may have its work cut out in its home territory - let alone the US and Europe.

I'm just glad to see that at least some people in Japan (the land of the gadgets) have some sense in them still and you can't just ask "anything" for your console.
