Sony E3 Press Conferece
Why did I do it, why did I decide to stay up for this?... Starting 45 minutes late, Sony 'entertained' us to a 2 hour presentation that ended 2:45 am
The show got off to a poor start as the speaker harped on about sales figures and past sony platorms. Then they got to the PS3 and unveiled some extremely underwhelming demos, light years behind last years CGI trailers.
While there was the odd lush game and even more promising CGI trailers, the audience were extrememly underwhelmed. Cue over enthusiatic speaker going 'woooo' at which point audience is silent, and eventually giving a smattering of forced applause.
Ironically one of the truly creative things that was shown was an application of the next gen eye-toy. The camera watched players play a regular yu-gi-oh style card game, but as the cards were layed down, the console 'read' the cards and spawned a monster where the card lay, which could then be manipulated. A trailer for Metal Gear Solid was the only thing that reall impressed the hard core gamers though.
Frankly much of it is a blur. I recall the annoucement of PS1 games downloaded to PSP, but we were expecting that. I also remember the controller design going down very well with the crowd, strangely they made no mention of the rumble feature being removed ('two steps forward...' anyone?)
..oh yes I remember the price.
We will have to see how the other two conferences go, but theres always a winner and a loser at E3, and I have a feeling the winner wont be Sony.
