S3 Events - Buffy Harvest Con - June 2003

S3 Events are holding a Buffy con 20-22 June 2003 and have just announced their first guest.

Bailey Chase who played Graham Miller in S4 & S5 of Buffy.

They haven't updated the website as yet but here is a copy of their e-mail re the update:-

"S3 Events are pleased and excited to announce that Bailey Chase (Graham Miller from Season 4 and Season 5) has confirmed as our first guest for next June's Buffy convention. As well as being first of many guest announcements this will be Baileys first ever convention
appearance in the UK! To find out more information on Bailey please visit his excellent official website at www.baileychase.com

I will be updating the website over the weekend to include Bailey as a guest as well as adding the booking form for those of you who wish to purchase tickets. On a side note we will be unable to take credit card bookings until nearer the end of the year so if you wish to get a low
ticket number to ensure good seats in the main hall as well as being low down for autographs it is advisable to book with either a cheque, money order, postal order or bank draft rather than wait for the credit card facility.

The venue can also now be confirmed as The Paragon hotel in London, which I'm sure those who attended Eclipse are familiar with. We will also be taking bookings for the hotel along with ticket bookings. If this wasn't enough for you look out for more guest announcements very soon

I love the idea of the Paragon - it had a central feel to it for food etc.

Hope they get the venue from empty as that'll improve accommodation for everyone and make the dressing up for the parties all the more easier

Now I'm just poised waiting for the tickets to go onsale

Just to update you all on the hotel rates as well, this has been taken from the S3 Events website:-

The venue for the convention is the Paragon hotel in London which is located just five minutes from Earl's court. Special room rates are available for attendees. A single room is Â£85, a double Â£95, and a triple is Â£105. This includes English Breakfast, Service and VAT @ 17.5%.

A booking form for the hotel will be sent out with tickets.

Think I'll wait a while for more guest announcements - got alot happening with conventions over the next few months and as I've been lucky enough to meet most of the cast, I'm a bit more relaxed about this one

I've never heard of this group so no comment there, but after the hell that was the Paragon hotel for Eclipse,(the location which wasnt exacltly pleasant,didnt feel really comfortable walking around late at night.) with costs from Â£85 for a single which is disgusting and Â£80 for reg ticket with only small guests by a new group, i dont know.....
if people do want to go to this there are alot of B&Bs near the paragon that are a lot cheaper.
i'll have to wait and see

It was unfortunate that a lot of the girls had to walk to overflow hotels etc for Eclipse so I know what you mean. I'm sure I've read on the S3egroup that they have the whole of the Paragon available (but don't quote me on that) IF this is the case then it has 500 rooms so presumably would accommodate a full 1000 peeps.

As for the room cost they are *exactly* the same as Eclipse was Single Â£85.00 Double/twin Â£95.00 Triple Â£105.00 as I just checked an old thread (although you are right that the single rate sucks - but I guess that's the hotel that's arranged the rates

)

I find it doubtful that I will make this one (too many conventions so little money) but some of the comments on the egroup are a bit strange - like the possibility of seating people in the hall in ticket number!!! Now this theory is fine if you and your mates all blockbook tickets but can you imagine having one mate straggling behind booking a ticket and having to be apart from all day?

Just a little odd in my opinion.

found out that the company running this is a webdesign company. hmm, smacks of profit before quality, doesnt it. does anyone remember Stargazer conventions, those that do will be very wary of profit run cons, especially by people with no con background.

Okay I got sent a link to this thread and couldn't let this slide. I understand as a newcomer people are wary before booking but this whole thing of people thinking they know the facts when they don't is just plain wrong.

S3 Events is not a website company and is not making any profit from the convention. How you could think a profit could be made after booking James Marsters just for starters I don't know...

Money left over at the end of the con as well as from the charity auction will be going to the chosen charity which is still being decided between myself and the guests. At the moment it is looking like either a children's charity or cancer charity. It will be announced within the next month or so.

I'm not looking to start fights with anyone but comparing us to other organisers is wrong until you've been to one of our cons as is stating false facts and is bordering on slander.

I can't see anyone in the thread saying they know the facts at all - just "do you remembers" and not specifically direct comparisons

Thank you for filling us in, information from organisers is always gratefully appreciated in adding to our members making up their own minds about an event.

Please remember that this website is somewhere for our members to discuss their thoughts. Nobody on here is making a direct claim against *any* convention, as T21 is a neutral website and the visiting of conventions is a sideline for the minority of our members who can afford to attend and who are merely discussing their previous visits and reasons why they can or cannot go to any new events(normally due to lack of finances/clash of other events etc).

Here's another update on the convention taken directly from their site (forthose of you too lazy to get there yourself

Ticket prices have now gone up to Â£86.

"Okay I'm now in a better position to let everyone know more details on The Harvest. First off I'll get the ugly stuff out of the way ie. the price increase. On August 31st ticket prices will increase by Â£6 to Â£86 (there is a reason for the odd figure). I do know that this is a lot more than most cons that range from the Â£65-Â£75 mark but to keep numbers down and to book main cast members it has to be around this price otherwise I'd need 3000+ attendees to charge Â£65 a ticket.

Onto the number of attendees (this isn't finalised but should be by November) there will be around 1200. This number may go up a little but if it can be pulled off I want it to go down. At the moment I'm just waiting to hear the finalised appearance fees of 3 cast members and once I know I'll be able to let you know the final number of attendees.

The plan will be to call registration numbers 1-400 for their autographs on the Friday, 401-800 on the Saturday and 801-1200 on the Sunday. If we can get through more numbers on each day (ie. on Friday 1-450 in the allocated time we will but obviously don't want to run the guests down).

The next main cast member to be announced as a guest now looks like it will happen sooner than I thought, around the middle-end of September, but may actually take as long as originally stated ie. October/November so it isn't a promise.

I was thinking about this as my friend in the states absolutely loves Bailey Chase, but i think it may be a no go with me. I have 2 cons in may and no doubt exams (yes again) in June.

Just to point out as well - I have read through the main details of this event and children under the age of 5 are NOT allowed to attend

So I guess this rules me out if no-one can have Georgia for the weekend.

I have asked their reasons for this and am waiting on their reply.

So if any of the parents out there that are thinking about going and have infants - babysitters may be needed
