I've sent off for my invitation to this, just need to send off the payment now.
Firefly Shindig - Bradford - 26th March 2005
This is being organised by a member of a few conventionf forums mireilleisis and I offered to post it here.
As some of you may know, to help Firefly and Serenity live on and secure a possible sequel to the Serenity movie,I have been trying to organise a shindig up in the Yorkshire region, to help promote the DVD sales of the Firefly Boxset and the interest to go and see the forthcoming movie: Serenity. (This i will most definitely help also raise awareness Starfury:Serenity . Sean, contact me if you want me to put any posters up).
I now have legal permission from Fox and Home Entertainment to screen Firefly episodes at the Shindig.
I have a criteria I must meet in order to be able to screen the episodes:
************************************************************
1. IT MUST BE BY INVITATION ONLY:
This means that those of you interested in coming must email me at mireilleisis2003@yahoo.co.uk, to express your interest, and i will subsequently add you to the INVITEES LIST. Unfortunately those without an official invitation would not be able to attend.
I will produce Official Invitations to send to you via post.
There will be initially 50 tickets available, unless I get a much bigger response, and I may be able to raise it to 80.
2. CHARGES
As it is a promotional event this will be FREE of charge. The only think that needs to be covered is the price of hiring a room to hold the event. As I am pretty much skint I would ask that we split the cost between all of the attendees. This should come to no more than £10 to £15. Fox and Home Entertainment are aware of this issue.
In the event that more than 50 people wished to attend, the excess money will be put towards a raffle (FREE OF CHARGE) where a lucky winner could take a special gift home.
3. COMPETITION
Fox and Home Entertainment are very kindly going to provide me with a SPECIAL GIFT to hand out at the event ( I don't know what it is yet).
Once the venue, date and charge for hiring the room have been decided, those of you who have expressed an interest in attending via email will then have the option to send a cheque or Postal Order with the due amount to the address I will shortly be disclosing.
You will then receive a special invitation ticket which will contain your Personal Number. On the day, I will tear that number (which will also have your name) and put it in a big hat. At the end of the last screening, we will hold the raffle and the gift will then be presented to the winner.
************************************************************
SCREENING
As most of you indicated in one of our polls, we will hold the event on ONE DAY ONLY. Which means that there will be a selection of 5 to 6 of our favourite episodes screened throughout the day. (Schedule will be distributed nearer the time).
As this is something done by a fan FOR THE FANS, I suggested we hold a vote for everybody's favourite 6 episodes, and those with most votes will be screened on the day. This poll will ALSO follow shortly.
DATE: Saturday 26th March 2005
TIME: 10 am to 6 pm (provisional)
VENUE: Conference Suite @ the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television - Bradford
PRICE: £15 per head.
This cost will includes the hiring of the room plus teas and coffees. By purchasing this ticket you will also be eligible to enter a FREE SPECIAL PRICE draw. (If we get more than 50 people, this could also include a second price draw)
The NMPFTV also has a Cafe and Bar. We will be able to take any drinks (yes, it includes alcoholic ones! ) into the screening.
As Bradford is a highly Student based city, for those wishing to continue the party we could pop into the town centre for some more bevvies and a boogie!
The whole point of this Shindig is a great opportunity to meet fellow fans and browncoats and a Damn good excuse for a party amongst friends! So bring your friends along (specially those that may be in need of "converting" )
If you are interested contact me either by PM or at mireilleisis2003@yahoo.co.uk to put you on the "Invitation" List. I am in the process of opening an account to pay for this Shindig, so as soon as I have it up and running, I will give you the address to post either your cheques or postal orders

Was considering going to this & if you're going (thus providing support in the form of people I already know well) then I may more than just consider it...
bradford isnt that far from where i live so i could get there quite easily. i have only seen a few eps of fire fly, and what i have seen so far i have realy liked. hopefully i will see more by the time this comes round, and i will definately be going. btw, does anyone know how many people will be going yet, or how many people have recieved their invites yet
The last email received by the organiser yesterday says the following:
I hope this helps, and I hope the organiser gets enough people interested. At this stage I'm still not sure if I can make it myself so need to make contact direct myself
Hello Everyone!
I have very important news regarding the hiring of the venue. As you know our deadline to have ALL the contributions in is this Friday 17th December. So far we have had just over 25 contributions received (THANKS YOU GUYS! you know who you are).
This means that there are still 20 contributions (of those who expressed interest) to come in by the end of this week, and we also still have 5 unsolicited tickets to give away.
We all know how difficult it is to part with ANY money at Christmas time , it is highly unlikely to be able to meet the Friday deadline, so after a lot of negotiations with the manager of the venue, together we have come up with a couple of solutions that I want to run by you first:
1. FIRST OPTION:
We keep the deadline to Friday 17th and make sure we get the rest contributions in by then.
PROS:
This will mean that the Shindig goes ahead; therefore I then pay the fees for the hall and can then send you all your much awaited Invitation Tickets .
CONS:
If this deadline isn't met then we would have to cancel the Shindig and I can send FULL REFUNDS (100%) to those who have already contributed to the Shindig :-(
2. SECOND OPTION:
We pay 50% DEPOSIT by FRIDAY 7th JANUARY and make sure that in the following three months we can get the rest of the contributions in and sell the last 5 tickets.
PROS:
We already have enough money in the account to pay for the deposit. It is very likely that in three months we will be able to reach our targets.
CONS:
If for any reason the Shindig gets cancelled (i.e. not enough contributions are sent in or the tickets donÂ’t get sold), I could only then REFUND the money in the following order:
- If the Shindig gets cancelled 2 months prior to the set date, I can only refund you 50% of your contributions (£7.50 per person).
- If the Shindig gets cancelled 1 month prior to the set date, I could only refund you 25% of your contributions (£3.75 per person).
- If the Shindig gets cancelled 2 weeks prior, NO Refunds would be available.
3. THIRD AND LAST OPTION:
I could try to find a different venue.
CONS:
The venue wouldn't be as central and adequate. I would very likely have to pay extra to hire the equipment to screen the Firefly episodes, and no drinks would be included in the price.
(Remember that at our present venue, the £15 we each contribute towards the final cost include: paying for the hire of the hall, hire of the equipment to show the episodes, an IT assistant throughout the day should we have any technical problems, Teas and Coffees supply throughout the day and FREE entrance to the 5 raffles).
PROS:
If it is a smaller venue, we wouldn't need the round figure of 50 attendees to cover the costs.
So as you can see, it is a decision we need to make as a TEAM. We are Big Damn Browncoats! We won't let anything 'verse stand in our way!
I would very much appreciate if you could get back to me either directly via my email mireilleisis2003@yahoo.co.uk, or more importantly via the Yahoo Group so we can all see what the majority wants to do.
So Choose your Option:
OPTION 1: Keep deadline of this Friday or if we don't meet it we must cancel the Shindig and get 100% refund back.
OPTION 2: Pay 50% deposit and spend the next 3 months making sure we go ahead or if we have to cancel we won't be able to get ALL our money back.
OPTION 3: Find new venue at the risk that it won't be as good as this one.
The choice is yours my BDB!!
Take care and LET'S KEEP FLYIN'!
Yxxx.
