Unfortunately not.. They are planning to reduce its classification so you won't be automatically arrested for possession, but definitely not legalising it.

Anyway, never been to Amsterdam before, so I might be interested.

Amsterdam is soo cool even if you don't do drugs, the coffee shops are so relaxed and there is a great bar hundeds of types of beer, (plus about about a hundred types of whisky).
I don't like the taste of beer or larger normally but the barman was recomending types that I was trying and I really liked them.
Staying is cheap plenty of Youth hostel type accomodation (though you will get haselled as you get into the city centre with people trying to get you to stay at there hostel). I would love to go again. Not been for two or more like three years now.

I did not meet anyone in Amsterdam who could not speak fluent English, In fact I tried a little Dutch at a Coffee shop once and I was so bad at it that the person behind the bar could not understand me and I had to try again in English (so much for my attempt to pick up the language as I went along, and from watching a subtitled Dutch series der brugg or whatever it was called years ago).
No trace of an alegedly Dutch steorotyped accent on anyone.

Mary J in the UK - as Dan said, all they've done is made it 'class C'. Fact is that for over a decade small time possession in the UK would rarely get you more than a caution unless you were caught more than once. So absolutely nothing has changed. Except that it's now got a 'C' classification...

Plus the stuff over there is way better than the stuff we get (usually full of seeds).

And yes, I am intending to smoke from the moment I land to the moment I leave. Alcohol and sightseeing are not on my itinerary.

And I can't say I've ever met anyone in Amsterdam who didn't speak English (albeit with a slight American accent usually) and they tend to laugh at bad attempts at Dutch (in a good-humoured way).

Personally, I don't like staying in the youth hostels as they look and feel like prison cells. As I said, you can usually get an apartment room for £15 per person per night, on the edge of the centre, which are much nicer.

Sooner we book the cheaper it is likely to be, so I need definites as soon as poss, please.

Sounds cool. I've never been to Amsterdam. And since I haven't had a holiday this year ..... or last year .... or for ages in fact! Errrr, count me in!

Ideally, depending on numbers, there's be a room for the guys and one for the gals. Although if we get enough numbers and we end up getting quite a few rooms, then I think we can do the more usual 'Amsterdam roomie thread' type a thing.

Chrissy, I just realised I never answered your question. Personally I'll be flying out on the morning of the Friday, from either Heathrow or Gatwick, whichever I can get the cheaper flight from, which currently looks like being Gatwick. However, there is no need for us all to catch the same flight, or go from the same airport, if that's not convenient. A couple of mates of mine from Leeds should be coming along, but they won't be flying out until the evening, from either Leeds-Bradford or Manchester, probably. If I know when people are due to arrive I get meet them at the train station. I just want to get there early so I can get us booked in.

Oh, and to get an early start. Snnotchie Bootchies!

I should also mention that this is also the same weekend that Nos will be that month, in case that alters anyone's mind...
