where woulkd these mountains be and could we look for treasure?
The Great Outdoors
I'm just wondering if there is any interest in meeting up and going walking up some mountains. It might make quite a nice change from the usual go to a pub, half watch an ep and get completely pissed .
I would be quite willing to take a few people up some mountains one Sunday, if anyone is interested.

We could find some old mines or caves to explore, if you like. But be warned, they can be dangerous

Well, there are lots of great places to go depending of course on the fitness and ability of the people involved.

What mountains you got in mind?
I personally like Snowdonia, but it's quite far from London area. Otherwise, we could walk on the Chilterns which are essentially a train ride away from London. I tend to know the mountains around Birmingham area. For a small walk for new walkers, maybe Dovedale, which is part of the Peak District.
Have you got any suggestions?
Ickel baby mountains (like the Brecons) might be nice for beginners.
Other than that, I haven't been to the Lakes for about 4 years, & Hellvelyn is awesome

Certainly, Dovedale is essentially a walk for beginners and is beautifull in the summer. There are some stepping stones across the river, which can be quite amusing if you meet someone coming the other way . Brecons are also a good area for relative beginners. Chilterns are ickle as well .
I've not got much experience in the Lake District, although that certainly doesn't rule it out - in fact, I might be paying them a visit over Christmas.

Maybe up for a bit of hill walking action. I love the Lake District. I went up Fairfield this summer which nearly killed me! It wasn't the climb up so much the long slog down the other side towards Ambleside. Legs like jelly by the end.
Trouble with the Lakes is that it's too far for a day trip, especially from London. We'd have to make a weekend of it... which would be fun...

Weekends away are cool! Us London lot could maybe even hire a minibus for transportation? Although, I have no idea how much they cost.

I am definitely interested! Any reason to get to the great outdoors and away from the Big Smoke! Plus, walking is one of my favourite forms of transport (time permitting!).
Wouldn't you like to know! I'm not giving away all the interesting bits though...thats for me to know but we do indeed have some catching up to do.

I haven't seen you around for ages!
London and Birmingham are both very different places. I feel that I can relax so much more easily in Birmingham, but having said that, you cannot beat London in other respects. Getting away for a weekend is good mind, get some fresh air, change of scenery, i.e. remind yourself that parts of the world are still green!
As for driving, i'll find out how much a minibus will cost - i suspect around the 200 UKP mark, which added to fuel costs could be too expensive. I ought to be reasonable at directions, although some of the drivers haven't been too impressed by some of the roads i've taken them down. Most notably about the width of some of them .
Are you going to be going to any meets in London, it'd be good to catch up.
I suspect you'll put most of us guys to shame . We could go scrambling, always good for nails .

Ok, there a few options.
We can either go in February sometime, in the hope of some snow . Or leave it until Easter or later, in the hope of warm weather.
I know both of those are hopeful, but we might get lucky!
