Bummer.
World Cup Blow
David Beckham broke a bone in his foot this evening after a shocking tackle and may be out for 8 weeks making his participation in the World Cup doubtful.
I don't particularly like Man Utd but I can't help feeling sorry for Beckham who has led England by example and now may miss out on the reward that his last minute goal against Greece earnt.

It's a shame, but I think if England were relying solely on Beckham to get us through the World Cup then we were stuffed before we even got there.
Exactly. I always thought there were 11 players on a team. Do feel sorry for Beckham 'tho.

After the way he rehabilitated himself from the fiasco at the last World Cup he deserved a break. But not that sort

dirty dirty dirty ....ah hem...... trying not to swear here. well sucks don't it, i'm a man utd fan, devestated, not only club chances slowing going down the pan but now england! i know theres 10 more playes on the pitch but for the last few games it seemed that becks was the only one doing anything. and all this talk that it was an acciedent and didn't mean anything pah! i just hope some premiership team doesn't retalliate and knack in juan sebo as revenge!
I really feel for Becks now. Say what you like about him being thick, having no fashion sense, playing for Man U etc but he is good for England, not just coz he plays brillient Football but coz he boosts the rest of the team.
He's always said that it was his dream to captain England in the World Cup and to have it taken away so close the event. He must be devestated.

A whole new meaning to the term "Argy-Bargy"?
Not fun for Becks though, I hope he makes a speedy recovery

While i'm not a Man Utd fan either but i must admit i felt sorry for him, so close to the World Cup and all of that, but there are other players in the squad, and i can't *believe* the media coverage over one broken bone! but i hope he has a speedy recovery anyway
I've got to say that while I totally sympathise with David Beckham, The Sun's "Lay you hands on David's foot at noon and make it better" was just totally OTT but very amusing at the same time
I do hope he gets better soon but there's no way I'm praying on the Sun!

Anyone would think a royal had died or something
I think that's optimism

It will heal or not heal. I just hope he will be alright. I think he will be, I hope so.
Anyway old Svenny has said he's prepared to take a risk on his Captain for the tournament if necessary.
I know what you mean. I don't follow football at all, I didn't even know there was a world cup this year until this story broke (no pun intended). It's Beckham himself I feel sorry for, not the team or the country or Man Utd. just Mr Beckham.

I can't help feeling sorry for Beckham
The media portrays him as a bloke that lives for 2 things, his family and football, and the prospect of missing out on the most important bit of football in his career/his passion must be devastating to the poor guy
I hope he heals sufficiently to play to his best in the world cup whether the team wins or loses.
