I've never been (well, apart from an hour or so in an airport a couple of times!) but I've heard a lot of good things about Montreal. Toronto is also meant to be nice and the two are relatively close (by Canadian standards ).
Canada ^_^

Montreal is indeed fantastic ... but not in December when the temperature is brass monkey cold.
There is several feet of snow everywhere, and most people get around using a network of underground tunnels.

Only been to Eastern Canada - Toronto, Quebec, Montreal, Ottowa. Nice place. Very big Asian community in Toronto, at times I could have sworn I was back in Malaysia, only with less humidity. Felt very at home, until we hit Quebec Province. The almost defiant display of French everywhere was a real shock but very interesting. Actually, there was a bigger sense of crossing a border going between Ontario and Quebec than Canada and the US, or even Canada and the UK!
I WANT to go to Toronto and Vancouver.
I used to love the L.M Montgomery books-Anne of Green Gables, Road to Avonlea etc so I really wanted to go to Prince Edward Island! And I still want to!

Anywhere in eastern or central Canada is going to be very cold and probably snowy in December. I think your best bet would be the Pacific area--the city of Vancouver and some other nearby parts of British Columbia. Maybe also Vancouver island. It's not going to be warm, but I think the weather will be a bit milder there, with not as much snow.
Toronto is a fantastic place in any weather.
Don't be put off by the snow/cold its all part of the experience. Like most cities it doesn't close just because of the weather. In fact Toronto has underground streets, shops & transport. Most buildings are linked to the underground so you don't even have to go outside if you don't want to.
There's also Niagara Falls which is equally stunning in winter when parts of it are frozen. Although the town of Niagara is pretty tacky, full of amusement arcades and they seem to be obsessed with Ghost Trains (i don't know why).
This has been an advert on behalf of the "National Tourist Board of Canada"
But the main reason to go anywhere in Canada are............................ the Mounties.

hee hee I am here... actually i discovered this topic yesterday, and i am in the process of compiling a *small* list of links (along with a few thoughts). I'm working full-time right now so i won't be on the computer until tomorrow so time is short. When I'm done i need to pass along my list to Wobag so it could be the weekend before i get a proper chance to reply.
OKAY! Well! I see I have my work cut out for me (Toronto.... eastern canada????), but I couldnÂ’t let this opportunity pass me by, seeing as i AM from Canada, lived here all my life and all IÂ’ve added sites to this post here and there. Even thought of adding West Edmonton Mall while I was lying awake at night! And this post is a long one too, so make yourself comfy (IÂ’ve seen long posts on other threads so shouldnÂ’t this be OK?) (Wo - I TRIED to shorter it i REALLY did but iÂ’m tired and want to do some scrapbooking before the weekend is over!)
Toronto is NOT Eastern Canada. my god.. here’s a map... listingsca.com/maps.asp I don’t know if I should be insulted or double over laughing... tho I will be a little defensive and say that Toronto (“T-O”), Quebec, Montreal, and Ottawa do NOT qualify as Eastern Canada. Just as there’s more places for tourists to visit in England than just London, there’s more to visit here in Canada than “T-O”. FYI...I’m in Newfoundland. One look at the map will tell you I’M in Eastern Canada.
Now that thatÂ’s out of the way... where do I start?! It depends on what you want to do. If skiing were your thing (but i know its not, so this is for anyone reading this who IS into skiing), you could go to any province and find a great place to ski (check out grover.educ.ualberta.ca/ski/skican_home.html ). BUT IÂ’d check www.theweathernetwork.com for the latest weather updates. Not everyone gets snow in December. December here is quite nice and we actually had a green Christmas We donÂ’t get the snowstorms until late january/feb/march, while Calgary (Alberta) right now had a severe blizzard this week! This is the link for our very own Marble Mountain... check it out! www.skimarble.com Marble Moutain was recently featured on Much Music (our version of the Amercian MTV) and it was quite a hit Check out Much Music at www.muchmusic.com and Much More Music at www.muchmoremusic.com
Government pages are always helpful... The Federal Government page is www.gc.ca - click on the “Provinces & Territories link” link to find the province you’re interested in <coughNewfoundland!cough> Each of the provinces will have their own section on Tourism. Ours is www.gov.nf.ca/tourism/
A few places to shop: www.torontoeatoncentre.com - Toronto; www.westedmall.com/index3.asp - West Edmonton Mall in Alberta is the largest mall in the world... and a few places to stay: www.sixcontinentshotels.com/holiday-inn?_IATAno=99502152 - Holiday Inn site;
www.deltahotels.com/hotels/ - Delta hotels; www.bbcanada.com - list of Bed & Breakfasts across Canada
I see youÂ’re a fan of BNL, I am not, although I have friends who are. One even has a website dedicated to them...
web.cs.mun.ca/~craig/gp/welcome_page.html It hasnÂ’t been updated in ages but as youÂ’ll see on the "More Information" page heÂ’s a busy guy. What it doesnÂ’t say is heÂ’s happily married and has THREE children (two of which are active twin boys). So donÂ’t count on new stuff, just enjoy whatÂ’s there
I donÂ’t have any desire to visit Vancouver though as I know they have black widow spiders <shiver> no thanks not for me
I use www.google.ca often to find out anything I have questions about. Normally it has answers for me, but not this time I was hoping it would give a helpful link to where exactly BNL are from, then I could look for links about that province. No luck yet. But here are a few links that IÂ’ve found... Hope theyÂ’re useful:
www.canehdian.com/artistlinks/barenaked/barenaked.html
www.allexperts.com/getExpert.asp?Category=384 - youÂ’ve got questions. These people have answers.
The Globe and Mail is one of the national papers, based in Toronto, site - www.theglobeandmail.com ThereÂ’s also the National Post too.
I’m sure I’ll think of more things to add long after this has ben posted. In the meantime I hope I’ve been helpful. There’s more info where that came from! I’m “watching” this topic, if anyone has any questions ask away! I’d like feedback anyway please.
I had to edit this post as some of the links didn't appear at all, and on a few the codes appeared. So i just deleted the codes and left it all as regular type. You'll just have to highlight the url, press copy, then paste.
One last thing... IÂ’ve never seen a Mountie exccept on tv
