i didn't bother studying, i wish i had reall, i mostly got c's and d's and 1 b. but i looked at it that how can you revise? the only way to revise for english was to read through the books again which we'd studied that year and i knew them well enough, maths i couldn't be bothered with, art i couldn't study, german i didn't even try coz i knew i'd get a useless mark. but yes i suggest you do study what you can.
Study leave-anyone actually study???
I have my GCSE's starting next week!
Just wondering is there anyone who actually sits at home and does/did nothing but study? Or anyone who does/did no study at all???
I get distracted by tv and the internet BUT I am trying to study! I did some science-(my worst subject which I got a D in the mock in!) yesterday. Today we have someone fitting new blinds in our kitchen so I'm going to stay upstairs and surf!

I'm at home at the mo trying to study for A Levels...I have an exam tomorrow and I'm on the net !!! what does that tell you ????
I do sit and home and work though - I tend yto use time on the net as a reward for working for a certain amount of time.
Good Luck wih the GCSE's !!! It gets worse at A level !!!

Hummmmmm yes. I didn't study during study leave when i did my GCSEs, i preferred the cram as much stuff as poss in the hour before the exam thing. Didn't serve me too badly but i would have done better had i done some proper revision.
I promised myself i'd do it properly for my A-levels - and promptly cramming for an hour in Mcdonalds (morning exams) or the pub (afternoon exams) was my only revision. As a result i didn't get the grades i needed to go to the uni i wanted to go to
You'd think i'd learn by the time i got to uni wouldn't you! Even in the third year i was still doing stuff last minute. I finished my dissertation 2 hours before it was due in and also knocked up another essay due on the same day in an hour before handing both of them in!!
The most amusing thing is that i got a first for both the dissertation and the other essay
However, its not a method i reccommend because i do stiull feel a pang of regret that i don't really know if i could have doen better coz i didn't try my hardest.
The best advice i'd offer for recvision is:
Treat the days of the week like you are still at school. get up on time and time your revision to coincide with lesson times. Use break times to reward yourself (surfing, reading, watching bad tv, eating junk food - whatever) Make the evening your own if you stick to it.
and
Use the internet if thats what you are most comfortable with - i think the BBC still do GCSE national curriculum revision aids, saves you trying to work out how to revise anyhow.
Hope this helps! and good luck to any T21ers who are sitting any form of exams over the next few weeks

I studied like mad. I got full marks right across the board.
Sydney's right though, treat your days at home like days at school. Get up nice and early, work for say 3 hours in the morning, have lunch, 3 hours in the afternoon, have tea and then maybe some revision at "Homework Time".
BUT - here's the good part. Take regular breaks at say half hour intervals, I used to break for 5 or so minutes every 25 mins. So a morning would start at 9 am and finish at 11.55
25 minutes work
5 minutes break

DONE - GO FOR FOOD.
The human concentration span only lasts a few minutes in truth, so you need to take regular breaks to keep your rate of learning at its peak.
Unless you're incredibly gifted, or have a true photographic memory, the more studying you do, the better your grades will be.
Good luck.

we have reading weeks at our uni, not that i actually read (since im in the 2nd year and havent read a book yet!!) its more of a legitamte reason to slack off and get drunk
Those are damn good suggestions...thanks for that !
The problem I have at the moment is that I have so muchh to revise, that I have no idea where to start ! I decided that I was going to do four A Levels that involved essay writing and synoptic papers...how stupid can I get ???

A good schedule, and I know it might sound strange, but during every break, drink a glass of water. Not juice, tea or coffee, plain water. Trust me, it helps. Good luck with all the studying.

That's a pretty good plan although I'd stick a slightly longer break in the middle. I think it's quite good to reward yourself after a session as well. If you know that you're going to check your email (say) at 12 then you're less likely to be tempted to do it at 11.15 and then get sidetracked away from studying.

I've only had one opportunity to have study leave in my life. I ended up playing snooker for the better part of a few weeks Luckily I still passed the exams
Hmmm, I have Study Days at work every month for this course I'm studying and I'm supposed to be writing assignments at home. Thing is, I usually do a couple of hours, go online and that's it for the day then!
No wonder I'm behind!!

I never needed to revise during study leave.

I have actually revised - this is the first time i've had study leave cause i'm in Year 10 (last exam today - WOOHOO ) but i think i could've done more at home.
I did have an exam timetable and USUALLY i do stick to them but this year i haven't done quite so much But yeah, i did something a bit like Monster's plan except with 30mins> I found it did actually work!

I had my first exam today - it was an AS retake from last summer. It could have gone worse so I'm relatively happy !
Good Luck for the remaining exams !
