This happened to me the other day and I was sure it was something I did. I went to veiw, text size and it was set to smallest so I changed it back to medium and it's been fine ever since DJ Billy laughed when I tried to get him to help me 'cos he thought it was all my own doing so to him

Now i notice that the font on the site is much smaller than usual (and that had happened just before everything shut down last night).. i need to know, is that a site thing, or a sick-computer-thing?
I'm Confused !! (Nothing New For Me)
My PC suffered a hissy fit of major proportions last night.. i had been in IRC when all of a sudden the tower began making rattling/knocking sounds.. and then all of a sudden shut off. It wouldn't re-boot at all, kept saying "Boot Failure. Please Insert diskette in A:" (we couldn't find the diskette) But this morning out of curiosity, i log on, and as you can see, i'm back on line.. confused much??.. i know i am!! All the problems of last night seemed to stem from me clicking off a pop up ad also, though it may have been a coincidence... hubby and i were envisaging a majorly expensive repair job

Please could someone explain to this very confused person, just what could have happened last night???

If your tower was rattling/rocking I'm guessing that there is something wrong inside your PC...might be worth taking it somewhere for a tech to have a look at.

Sounds to me like you might have an issue with the fan, and your PC over heated last night, hence the crash. Highly recommend you get someone to look at it soon before there's any permanent damage...
Yep, I'd agree with that. And if it is in actual fact the fan then I wouldn't be surprised if this happens again...

This bit makes me think that you might have a probelm with your hard drive, either it was that which was doing the rattling/shaking (which is generally pretty bad news, or the rattling had (temporarily) disloged the cable from the back of it (which is less worrying).

It might be worth making a backup of everything that you want to keep, just in case it is the hard drive at fault.
Thank you all for your advice, gratefully received and digested... no more funny noises from the hard drive (yet) which makes me think something did overheat last night (and i haven't been using my computer for any great lengths of time recently)... but we will get someone out to look at it..
And incidentally, could some kind person let me know how to change my font/text size back to normal?.. i have no idea how to do this... (as usual)
Thank you again

I didn't think is was you. I just told you where to look!
That's the last time I help you with anything
Go into 'view', then 'text size' and then choose the size you want

Well, after an enforced absence of 10 whole days, i am back!!.. bet y'all didn't miss me
The tower we think was virussed.. we couldnt save much information, so instead of having it replaced, we got a new one!!!... so here i am.. with Windows XP, 2.2 GHZ and 256 Ram.. soon to be upgraded to 512... as always i don't have a clue what is happening, but best thing is, i'm BAACK!!.. normal kind of sanity is resumed (for me anyway)

Aww thanks hon
Believe me, they were the longest ten days of my life!!..
All the ironing got done (and there was a lot! ), watched lots of television, read lots of books in the evening when the kids were in bed, and played with both children a lot in between. It was interesting, but i missed this site so much
Plus to add to the general mayhem, we've just had a new kitchen installed.. which wasn't helpful when myself and Ray were trying to figure out how to get this up and going!..
