"I have from an early age abjured the use of meat, and the time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men" (Leonardo Da Vinci).
"Now I can look at you in peace, I don't eat you any more" (Franz Kafka).
"How can we eat anything with eyes?" (Will Kellogg).
"I do not like eating meat because I have seen lambs and pigs killed. I saw and felt their pain. They felt the approaching death. I could not bear it. I cried like a child. I ran up a hill and could not breathe. I felt that I was choking. I felt the death of the lamb" (Vaslav Nijinsky).
"My respect and empathy towards animals includes sea dwellers, too -- from dolphins to fish to lobsters. So, of course, I wouldn't dream of eating them" (Alexandra Paul).
"We need a boundless ethics which will include animals also" (Albert Schweitzer).
"I have no doubt that it is part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual improvement, to leave off eating animals" (Henry David Thoreau).
"The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them, that's the essence of inhumanity" (George Bernard Shaw).
"We consume the carcasses of creatures of like appetites, passions and organs with our own, and fill the slaughter houses daily with screams of pain and fear" (Robert Louis Stevenson).
Now, I have some very strong opinion on most of these quotes, but before I launch into one (and I will) I was wondering what y'all thought of them?

holds the universe together.
OK OK perhaps 'force' was the wrong choice of words - but
being shown some consideration would be nice - ok!
Sydney You can lead the whore to culture but you can't make her think!
Just out of interest do these people who don't show you consideration by eating meat in front of you know your feelings on it. Do they know that their actions are offending you? If not then you can't really complain. Simply knowing that someone is a vegetarian isn't enough to assume that. Lioness and Taz are both vegetarians yet they have cooked a full english breakfast for me.
I'm not trying to be confrontational but i feel that you are being a little hard on meateaters, this is our lifestyle choice and we don't deserve to be accused of being inconsiderate simply for having a meal

I really don't want to make this into an argument - I have an opinion, I don't eat meat.
Did you know that in Victorian times it was illegal to be a vegetarian?
Spitefulangel Why buy the cow...when you get the sex for free
i only eat chicken, i don't want to, but it draaaaws me to it i did so try heh, but no, i'm not strong enough to live without ma chicken
Actually, I like chicken too, but i only buy it when it's it's being sold at the rottiserie (sp?) at reduced price, the premise being that if the supermarket doesn't make a profit, I'm not contributing to the perpetuation of the meat trade.
Really, I have no feelings about the manner in which animals are treated, not even bunny rabbits in laboratories. I'm more concerned with the further reaching consequences of a meat intensive culture, like the aforementioned use of farmland. As for what would become of cows, they've been bred for centuries to be placid and succulent, and would probably have no future if they weren't needed anymore. Still, they wouldn't be the first species to become extinct because of man's intervention. And who hit upon the idea of drinking cow's milk in the first place? Men, no doubt
