One quote did leap out at me: "Many people are put off by the fact that Buffy is genre fiction. Some Buffy fans complain that this is snobbery, but I think it is quite understandable: genres are defined by a set of expectations, and knowing what to expect is a dubious pleasure."

It seems to me that this is a very limited definition of 'genre fiction' which could only be used by someone who hasn't come across much of it. A set of expectations? I'd have thought the defining feature of decent sci-fi/fantasy is that it has far more scope to defy expectations.

One of my friend at Uni did his Dissertation on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He got s first for it. Id have done it if he hadn't thought of it before me
