It's been fun watching Manchester desperately trying to get ready for the thing, at which they haven't entirely succeeded - any foreigner arriving at Piccadilly station is in for a big surprise unless it's changed radically since Monday!

Athletics ain't really my thing anyway, but the very concept of the Commonwealth Games seems rather outdated. Just try remembering which countries are included...

Well I hate athletics and as the company I work for is sponsering the games its a bit difficult to get away from them. However i thought the opening ceremony was brillient especially when the crowd was greeting each country individually with "hello <insert name of country here>" very amusing!! That's ya friendly manc welcome for ya I suppose

As for Picadilly station, I'll be going through tonight but I know that a week on friday it looked like a bombsite then last friday it looked almost finished.

The organisaton seems to have gone really well - all the preperations for the roads being closed have gone well with most motorists knowing well in advance. Its just a shame that ASLEF have decided to go ahead with their blatent targeting of the games and strike for the next three sunday and mondays which makes it a pain in the butt to get into work and to get home from Prom and Schools disco. I tell ya they get no symapthy from me

My mum comes from Manchester.

So we watched it last night. Quite impressive!

And Russell Watson (is that his name?) sang the Star Trek Enterprise theme song!

the opening was fantastic, although why s club were there baffled me some!

ps. omg weird! as i'm typing this i'm talking to my friends who are in Nepal on World Challenge trip! i haven't spoke to them for a month!!!! awwww!!!

As far as the Games are concerned? As Dan said, pretty much an out-of-date concept and athletic and field events are not my bag. In fact, quite yawn worthy.

I actually went to the Games on Thursday to watch the diving as I dive for fun and love watching. It was very good although the guy who was diving for England was so arrogant that I didn't want him to win! He came second in the end, grrrrr!!

Also when we arrived, Piccadilly station was only half finished but Manchester seemed like a nice city as I have never been before

Maybe i don't count cause i've also been hearing it on North-West Tonight - and the description that DJ Billy gave of the coverage is not an understatement


Unfortunately, i didn't get to watch the opening ceremony - it was that or a preview of Austin Powers

I can't really understand the fuss about it - i could understand if it was the Olympics but a lot of the countries are lesser known countires with very few altheletes. I think it's absolutely fantastic that these countries get the chance to perform when usually they'd never qualify for the olympics (and hopefully it will bring some money to the countries that need it most) but we're getting so hyped up about doing well - but since we have better facilities to train in and more people to choose from i thought that might've been expected maybe i'm just cynical

Well I'm in the north west and I barely know anything about it. I'd heard they were gonna be in Manchester sometime, and then I realised it must be soon because they included it in Corrie.

But first I knew that the other day was the opening ceremony was when I was channel-hopping and saw it...and then found something else to watch.

No real interest here.

I don't really take much interest apart from the gymnastics, which I sit there in awe at, lol. Always wanted to be a gymnast, and I can imagine how hard doing some of those moves must be.
One of the people commentating the diving had a really annoying voice and it really grated me.

I've been watching some of the athletics and some of the swimming events.. it passes the time as there's not really much else on at the moment

OK, so I'm a big athletics fan. don't ask me why, just am

Havcen't been watching it that much as I have been in Ieland for the past week and parents insisted that I take in some of the culture than watch sport on the Tv , but what I have seen of it, I've enjoyed we seem to be doing OK this year, other than the farce that was the mens 100m final !

Still not too sure about which countries are in the Commonwealth though...

Ahem! just so you know Canada is indeed in the Commonwealth

I haven't noticed if any of the Games are on tv. We're in the middle of the Pope's visit for World Youth Day (held in Toronto, Ontario) so that's been dominating the airwaves.

I read in the paper that we're doing well in the medal standings (yayyy!!!) tho no surprise there
