Have you spoken to CAB?
Any employment law specialists around?
Need some advice - urgently!!
We found out about a month ago that the pub my other half runs, and which we live is, is being sold to a different company at the end of September. He has been told today that the company who are buying it want it vacant on the 27th, ie in 3 weeks time!
Now, I think this is totally illegal. His current company have to give him 4 weeks notice and as the business is being bought as a going concern then if he's still here when the sale goes through he's covered by transfer of undertakings rules. At the moment we're trying to find out who has made this decision (the guy in charge of operations at the new company denies all knowledge and hasn't got anyone to put in in 3 weeks anyway.) We're hopefully going to go to the CAB this afternoon and see what they say, but I wondered if anyone here could offer any advice?
As it stands, we seem to be facing Tim losing his job and us losing our home in three weeks time - which is just two weeks before our wedding (evening reception booked to be in the pub!!)

We spoke to them on the phone but we couldn't see anyone today. We were obviously more concerned with the situation regarding our flat than the unfair dismissal thing, the problem is with tied accommodation we have very few rights although they did say that it's very unlikely that a court would consider three weeks to be reasonable notice to move. Six Continents are sending out a settlement offer and have said that they'll pay Tim's solicitors fees to get that checked, we are also waiting for someone from the new owners to get back to us and let us know what their view is - after all, they will need someone to run the place.
We still can't get a straight answer from anyone about where this decision has suddenly come from, because we were told for weeks that there would be a transition period and things would carry on as they were.
We're looking at a house to rent on Tuesday as well, they have quite a few unfurnished places available immediately and we just hope that unfurnished places allow pets.

As you are in England most of the stuff i know is pretty useless. If you cant get to see CAB then contact a lawyer, it may be expensive but if it helps then its worth it.
I dont know much about employment law but i do know who does. solicitors.
It'll cost ya about 100 - 150 for an hour (unlss you are intitled to legal aid) but it is worth it. i didnt think i had a clame (or at least it was a flimsy one) but my solicitor won me 2500.
thats the only way to really find out where you stand.
BTW, this sucks Hope you get something sorted and it doesnt spoil the wedding for ya.

It both sucks and blows I can't post what I think of Six Continents Retail here - suffice it to say that it is a *very* long way from being family friendly!!

Possibly foolishly they have agreed to pay Tim's solicitors costs to get the settlement checked out and we are going to be going through it with a fine tooth comb, believe me! Something about this whole deal doesn't seem to add up and I wouldn't actually be surprised if we found something more than unfair dismissal...well, I hope so anyway. I really want to get back at these people for totally stuffing our life up, it's been one employee relations disaster after another and we'd actually decided to get out - AFTER the wedding - and now this!!
White Hart, I'm guessing Tim isn't a member of a Trade Union? Aside from the usual general Trade Unions, I presume there probably is one specifically for Landlords/ladies, or at least an association. These should over free legal advise for situations just like this. If Tim has a contract stating he is entitled to four weeks notice, then they haven't got a leg to stand on, as far as I'm aware. But I would definitely get a Trade Union involved.
