Depending on the damage it is probably recoverable, however you should probably consult your university's IS department before trying anything yourself unles you're confident you know what to do, your IS group may well have access to the right materials, software and skills to recover the data from the disk.

In general computer stuff can be rinsed with tap water (pull the plug first )
just make sure you let it dry long enough. I've given my keyboard a shower several times after beer accidents...

No luck, tried everything, almost got a part of another document to read once. No back ups, the it could not do a restore from network drive either (it should have saved to my personal hard drive space, don't think I can do it all in one night and may have to miss half of SG5 to do it, skipped all lectures and seminars already today to try and solve the problem.
