I used to think that there was a switch inside each lamp post and some guy came along every evening with a key to unlock the little 'door' at the bottom and switch it on. Now that would be a dull job
What did you believe as a child?
I came across this site http://www.iusedtobelieve.com/ about adults recalling now what they used to believe as a child

I used to beleive that when you turned 18, you were sent a letter inviting you to a big hall and were given a number to bring along. When you got there, the boys had to line up on one side and the girls on the other. You then had to find the matching number from the other side and that is who you married. I remember being worried incase i wouldn't like the person i got matched up with when it was my turn.

I used to believe my mum when she told me that every time you open and close the fridge that a little goblin turns the light on and off, and if you were really quick you could catch a glimpse of him, it obviously stayed with me because i'm telling my fifteen month old son the same thing !!!!
I still to this day don't eat tomato`s as my uncles used to tell me that if I swallowed the pips a tomato plant would grown out of my mouth. But its OK to eat tomato sauce or tomato puree.
The same 2 uncles used to tease me about my freckles and would say that as a baby I was left out in the sun under a sieve and that's how I got my freckles.
And the one about poking your belly button, that causes your bum to fall off

Let's see...
I used to believe that gravity was caused by the rotation of the earth. Y'know, the old think about bucket swinging and centrapetal force...
And that we emitted light from our eyes which then bounced off things and back into our eyes so that we could see them. Until someone asked why we couldn't see in the dark...
I also used to think that as I would be 28 in the year 2000 I would be really old, so I would have a career, home, mortgage, car, marriage and kids...
That's all I can think of for now .. oh, expcept I used to believe there was this invisible creature that no one could see and I would talk to it everyday. It gets worse. I thought this thing created me, my family, the world, y'know, everything. And it knew everything and could do anything it wanted. Weird huh?

my brother (oh cruel teacher in life) used to tell me that when you picked a leaf from a bush if you listened real carefully you could hear them scream and then he would demonstrate and make a little tiny screaming noise in his throat as he picked them and of course this shocked and fascinated me and so spent many a day standing in my front garden plucking leafs from the bush listening intently for the screams.
