Can't say that I have any experience of Peugeot's. But as far as selling the old one is concerned, I would consider using Auto Trader (who also have a web site).

My sister and her SO have one out in Hong Kong. They really like it. I've ridden in it and seems fine but it has all the usual drawbacks of a car of that type - the rear seats are only just usable by human beings and there's not a lot of space in the boot once the roof's down.

She was suggesting I should get one over here too but my criteria are rather different: I veer more towards luxurious, comfortable cars with enough cargo space to transport my (and friends') gear to airsoft skirmishes and LAN games sessions!

Also, having ridden in an ex-colleague's for a bit, the Merc SLK does seem like a much nicer hardtop convertible but it's rather debatable whether that justifies the ~£10k higher price tag.

I'm going out at the weekend to look for a new car. I'm interested in getting a Peugeot 206 CC, I've seen one advertised for £12,999. Does anyone here drive one of these, if so do you recommend it?

I don't have a 206 CC but I do have a five-year-old Peugeot that I have had since new and not had any trouble with. If you want a first hand reaction, the Auto Express team have one on their fleet and you can read a report on the website... www.autoexpress.co.uk/ (I can't get a direct link, but look in Road Tests and you'll find it in the Long Term Test section).

As far as selling your old car goes, you'll get a better price if you sell privately but it only comes with increased hassle. If you can't stand the thought of placing ads, fielding calls and dealing with members of the public popping by your house, then just ask if the dealer you are buying from will take your old motor in part exchange. Check out the Glass' Guide prices before you go though (also on the Auto Express website, or in the back of each issue of the mag), just to make sure you know what you can expect to get for it - you don't wanna get ripped off in the heat of the moment!

I test drove one not long ago, and the most memorable thing about and for me was (and, incidentally, the reason I didn't buy it) that I'm so short I couldn't see out of the back window to reverse.

Apart from that everything else was fine... I like peugeots (currently have a 306) but I'd recommend a test drive (or a cushion) - especially if like me you're a little vertically challenged.

Anyway I did it - bought a Peugeot 206 (regular one not the cc model).

Bought from Tradesales in Slough, they're a big import supermarket style dealer. Prices are around £3000 - £4000 cheaper than main dealers, so I'm a very happy bunny They even took my old car in part exchange.
So Wednesday afternoon I get to collect the car and have hours of fun playing with all the buttons, cubby holes and trying to find reverse.

Guess we just had higher pain thresholds! Have you seen the Merc SLK? Doesn't even have rudimentary rear seats! Conclusion - a hardtop convertible is indeed a highly desirable piece of kit but, for me, totally unsuitable as a primary car :-(

I was initially stuck first time I had to put the new Mondeo in reverse as it was a manual transmission but I'd test driven an automatic. Actually had to RTFM before I figured it out...

Do not dispair! Peugeot are bringing out a CC version of their 307 this year with both useable rear seats and a folding hard top. It's likely to be priced between £15,500 and £18,500. Saw it at the motor-show and fell in love

Well, I don't know what engine is in the CC, but I had the misfortune of driving (what I hope to be) a bottom of the range 206.

After 2 days I was glad to get back into my 14 year old 1.1 litre car.

Acceleration above 40 mph was non existant (apart from a strange patch in the 75-85 range) traction was scary & the gear change felt a bit on the nasty side as well.

The seats were quite comfy thought.

Hey, I just brought a car from Tradesales in Slough, they really do a great deal, I got a six month old Fiat Punto for £3000 cheaper than if I had brought it new from a Fiat dealer and I get the warrenty. Either a 1.6 or 2.0 litre 16v, so it'll shift a fair bit faster than the base 1.1 version. I think the 2.0 is the same engine as the GTi.

Well, I've had the car 5 days now and I'm very happy with it.
Although tragedy nearly struck on Thursday. I was driving back from working at Gatwick, just leaving the M25 to join the M4 when a van decided it wanted to cut up the car behind me, not realising I was breaking/slowing down. All I can see in the rear view mirror is the van swerving to avoid me, screech of brakes and smoke as it swerves on to the hard shoulder. My heart was in my throat, all I could think was "No, I've only had it a day". I was very happy to get home that day.
