HTML Reference Books?

My home PC decided to give up the ghost last week

I now have a new (and much better) PC

but unfortunately, along with all the documents etc I have lost the web design software I copied from a friend.

However, as I don't need to do anything very complicated at the moment, I am seeing this as a golden opportunity to teach myself HTML and learn to code pages properly. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good reference/tutorial book or website to start me off?

Callum Bianca loves you

I tend to use the "Web Authoring Desk Reference" pub Hayden.

It suffers from a few errors, and is fairly old -- but if all you need is a standard HTML4 reference it's pretty good.

If something more up-to-date is needed, I'd advocate O'Reilly's "HTML & XHTML".

Or go the free route and look at the W3 website

A really simple book and one that teaches ya from the basics right up is "HTML for Dummies"..can't remember the publisher but they Dummies books are really good and pretty self explanatory.

I was considering 'HTML for Dummies' anyway, as I've seen some of the others in the series and they're pretty good...but I'll have a look at the online stuff as well. I'm sure I could find another copy of Dreamweaver to borrow, but I don't really need it for what I do, and I really should learn to code properly anyway...

I've found WebMonkey to be pretty useful, even though I haven't actually gotten round to doing much of it yet...
