cant get either ntl or blueyonder though people just 5 minutes from here can and i cant afford an asdl it aint happening. looks like Im gonna be off the internet "air" for a while as it seems i cant get bt or anything else available as i have no funds coming in at all and my dad has already agreed to pay for my diploma course.

well we are moving very soon and there is no way I am going back to dial-up (we currently have Blueyonder). The area we are moving to does not have cable so it will have to be one of the ADSL providers.

Seeing that they need a BT phone line doe4s that mean that I will have to go with BT for my telephone service? I have been checking out Eclipse who won the speed test in April 03, and this seems to be implied.

We literally got connected to Freeserve broadband yesterday and it's been okay so far, though Ray was downloading some music today, went to have a shower, came back to see he'd been disconnected. I mentioned the 150 hour per month limit and he knows nothing about it.
Is this a standard thing? is anyone else using Freeserve Broadband and could tell me?

Why move to broadband?

Always on connection. Having a broadband connection means you're always connected to the Internet.

So I guess no 150 hours limit..... thats only like 5 hours a day that's so not always on

The 150 hour limit sounds a lot like the dail-up accounts BT etc have... Or it could always be the 150gb traffic limit that someone mentioned and was interupted as 150 hours (although you so can't download a gig of data on a 512kbps line in an hour )

So I don't think you have much to worry about the 150 hours

Oh and for a little note..... if you would live in NL in an Essent cablecom area and you don't mind slow uploads (128kbps) get @home Downstream maxes out on 3.8mbit for 34 quid a month...
