Ming I am not expendable, I am not stupid and I am not going
Excellent! Can I trouble you with some questions about your experiences with it when it does arrive?

Sure

Thanks. So, when are you expecting the new baby then? I'm bringing my Xbox Live setup into work on Monday to "educate" my teammates!

Just got it in the post this morning
It seems to be umm buggy to say the least, the diagnostic util crashes out as soon as it gets to the ping test (but it does actually work), and socom disconnects me as soon as I try to connect, but I can browse the web on it... ish..
Edit: I'm typing this on my PS2 now actually, it's a bit clunky but it works :]

Ooh ooh! You have mail!
BTW, please tell me you have a keyboard and you didn't type that in with a gamepad...

Had a quick play around on socom... it *sucks* with a joypad totally awkward to play.. oh well, at least a fragged a couple of peeps, but first impressions of joypad fps is *ick*

Not had much joy with FPS and gamepads with the singular exception of Halo. The control system uses both analogue sticks to rotate and move and takes a bit of getting used to but it became very fluid after a while. Still no match for a mouse and keyboard though.
How well does the voice command stuff work?

You can't use the voice command in the online version (it's used for controlling your team in the single player game), but the voice chat system seems to work very well in online frag-fests, with dead team-mates shouting warnings.. "he's behind you!" etc
The game works very well apart from the control system, and that's only because the developers "think that it would give an unfair advantage" to the people using keyboard/mouse combos
We do however get the full game for free at the end of the trial Hopefully we'll have pursueded them to let us use keyboard/mouse combo's by then
I'm a bit limited to what I can say really as I only have the one game to play, but the networking ability is very good

Basically, we'd be very interested in picking your brains about your experiences of the whole process of getting the kit and what was in it, getting connected and actually using it.
I've already done the same for Xbox Live. Of course, I suppose I should try to track down someone who might have a Gamecube, either the modem or broadband adaptors and Phantasy Star Online!

Pick away

Well, what we'd like to do is ideally arrange a phone call with you to talk through you experiences to date. Would any time on Monday be convenient?
