It specifically highlights the appalling coverage given to the disaster by The Sun which printed a series of vile lies about the victims.
To date, no court has been willing to point the finger at the police or award any sort of compensation to the families of those who died despite the clear breach of juty of care by those in charge that day.
96 people went to watch a football match that day and didn't return. The fight for justice continues.
Not trying to bring down a poignant (sp??) subject, but is that a straight copy paste? If so, I'm not sure what the copyright issues are with the guardian. could have swore it's been brought up before, might be worth just using a link. If not then forget the above.
On the subject though, it does seem a lot shorter than 14 years. Even *I* remember it and at that point I was only 7 or 8. Definitely a sad day in Football.
I remember Des Lynam on Grandstand cutting away from whatever they were showing to Hillsborough (back in the days before both semis were shown live) and the scenes there.
I remember going swimming, just having seen the initial stages of what had happened and thinking it was a minor crowd disturbance, then coming home to find several people had died.
I remember a call in show on local radio the following day, where everyone who had been in that end of the ground said that the police had closed off the two side sections of the stand and were filtering everyone in to the central section, just to make it easier to police.
I remember the following week in school the weekly collection was for Hillsborough families and it raising around 20 times what the weekly charity usually raised.
I remember Liverpool's league games being postponed for two weeks afterwards, with the entire Kop end and penalty area being filled with bouquets of flowers.
I remember the outrage at the Sun, and also a high-up official at UEFA who, on hearing of the tragedy just said 'tut, Liverpool again'
I remember that season's final being particularly poignant, as it was against Everton.
I remember losing the title to Arsenal in the last 5 mins of the final league game of the season on 'goals scored' of all things, meaning we were penalised for having a better defence. Not that it really seemed to matter after what had happened
It's amazing the specifics you can remember about something that happened so long ago, and when you were so young.

Doesn't seem like 14 years ago to me either. I remember how sad I was when hearing the news and I still have my copy of 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' on 7" from which all money raised was given to the Hillsborough Disaster Fund.
Hillsborough wasn't the only crowd disaster like this though. There was a simialr scene at Ibrox in the 70's and I'm sure that a similar situation occured at a German stadium in the 80's. There was also another case of this in Brazil(?) in the last couple of years. All very sad incidents
