You can count me as one who did know. I saw it in a paper this morning when I was waiting to get my hair cut (or what remains) and I couldn't beleive what I was reading.
He certainly took the Isle of Man TT by the scruff of the neck last year (and as you mentioned set the fastest overal speed for a single lap). He had my respect not only for his talent, but for the fact that he wasn't your typical motorcycle racer's build - small, light and agile where not applicable to him, but by god could he ride a bike!
With the loss of Daijro Kato in the MotoGP class only a few weeks ago it hasn't been a good time for the racing fraternity.
Given that I am off tomorrow (with 7 others) on a 5-day bike trip to Wales, you can imagine that I haven't mentioned this piece of news to my already paranoid mum.
