I didn't think that Weatherspoons had banned smoking. I just thought they had no smoking areas (which are generally the only area of the pub where children are allowed as well) and a no snoking by the bar policy (which more and more pubs are implementing these days). And in terms of being a 'Family Pub' its not like Children have a free run like they do in some pubs (It drives me up the bend when Children are allowed to run amok while their parents get slowly more sozzled) In our local Weatherspoons children are only allowed in if they are having food from the menu.
I do think the swearing issue is a little extreme especially as it appears to have been started off by the objections of a very small minority, but it certainly won't stop me frequenting the chains pubs, in fact it could be nice to be able to sit and know that you're don't have to put up with people who can't utter two word without swearing very loudly
