As a football fan I'd say that it's probably a good idea for Becks to leave Man Utd. He's not going to get any better at Man U and would probably improve a lot if he was to play in either the Spanish or Italian leagues. Man U will get a *lot* of cash for him which would mean they could improve their squad even further and they have to do that if they want to win the Champions League next season. I'd be surprised if he's still playing for them next season.
Bye Bye Beckham?
So looks like the rumoured Beckham move will be happening, even if it is under some rather odd conditions?
Does anyone care? Should he have gone ages ago? Are Man U making a huge mistake? Would you have wanted to carry on working for someone who'd kicked a boot at your head? Or should Manchester inhabitants just be pleased that they can enjoy the Trafford Centre in peace?

From a Liverpool supporter's pint of view I'd rather see Beckham stay at Man U. £30m would be enought to buy another play of the quality of van Nistelrooy, and he's much more valuable to Man U. than Beckham is.
On the other hand though, if he moved away from Man U. it'd mean I'd be able to like him

Cynical me thinks that Sky will be rubbing their hands at the increased interest there'll be in their coverage of Spanish league games...
I think the sc^H^H Man U will operate perfectly well without him, as they demonstrated this year when Solskjaer (sp???) stepped into his shoes. A bit of room in their massively talented midfield will give others room to grow, especially with Keane moving back into the defence (probably) - looking for a big season from Veron and Scholes, a couple of purchases on the back of the Beckham sale, and maybe some of the youngsters coming through like O'Shea did last season.

As a footballer, Becks isn't worth £30m. Take away the dead ball skills and he is a pretty average midfielder.
As a merchandising opportunity, he might well be worth it, although United are as commercial as a club can get and they don't seem overly concerned by the loss in income.
For them, I think it's a good deal if they can get it.
For Beckham, anywhere other than Real Madrid would be a mistake.

Surely you don't want to buy Patrick Kielty? He'd make a lousy midfielder!

As I a united surpporter will I be sorry to see him go in a word no he's been found out in europe against the really big teams and if allows them to go out and buy players of the calibre of Ronaldinho and Harry Kewell then I'm all for it. Adios Senor Beckham
And an amusing piece by the never less than amusingly self-promoting Julie Burchill on the real problem in Becks' life... Mrs Becks.

I want Beckham to go out of the FA more chance of the Arsenal to succeed.

Real Madrid are saying they have signed Beckham and his agents say a deal is if not signed then certainly imminent.
Looks like that's that then.
Wonder what the papers will find to talk about for the rest of the summer?
I hear whispers that Djimi Traore may be going to Juventus in a swap deal for Lilian Thuram.
