After seeing Agassi lose in the French Open, and be absolutely demolished by Andy Roddick at Queens, I'm not sure he's got a chance of winning here. If Roddick plays like he did at Queens, I don't see how anyone can stop him.
I don't care all that much for Henman either. Not that it would be a bad thing if he won, but I just can't see it ever happening, and certainly not this year.

In the womens.. Venus isn't looking too good at the moment, Serena will probably get to the final, although Justine Henin-Hardenne was looking very good beating her and then winning the French Open. I'd like to see her or Kim Clijsters win.

But mainly, I'd just like to be watching the tennis rather than working..

That's interesting. Agassi did of course win the Australian Open and is ranked number one in the world (again).

I didn't see the match against Roddick at Queens but the Radio 5 expert analysts (I honestly can't remember who they are) reported that Agassi was fine tuning his game having got far enough to complete his Wimbledon preparation comfortably (they seemed to feel winning Queens is a couple of games more than is ideal?) and specifically they said that they simply couldn't imagine Roddick beating Agassi over five sets if Agassi wanted to win.

I don't know enough about tennis to really judge that... all I know is that big servers bore me and stoic baseliners bore me. I just like Agassi because he hits clean winners from the baseline like no-one else.

I don't get Tennis and as a result I don't like it!

But, I do think its funny that last years winner has crashed out already

I think that would largely depend on whether Roddick could serve as well as he did in that match over the course of five sets. Probably he couldn't, but I certainly think it would be interesting if they meet again.

Oh, I agree. I'd like to see him win, and he is certainly one of the best players in the world. However his current number one ranking seems to be largely down to Leyton Hewitt having completely lost it this year. Knocked out in the first round - yay!

Saw this reply coming.

Football (like most other sports I can think of) acknowledges the role of supporters and takes measures to ensure that both teams have some support through ticket allocations.

The nature of home advantage is built into the sport and compensated for.

The Grand Slam tournaments in Tennis are, I would suggest, akin not to a Premiership game but a Cup Final, International Athletics Event or World/European Cup. At none of these events would the support be so completely one-sided as crowds are at Wimbledon when Henman plays.

Like I said, not expecting people to agree (Tim's a Brit bless him) but for me, the complete partiality of the audience is unsportsmanlike and lacking in grace. Cheering when a player double-faults is shabby to say the least.

Of course, the same partiality happens in other tournaments as well, the most notable recent example being the anti-American shouting when Serena Williams played Justine Henin-Hardenne in the French Open, which seemed to contribute significantly to her defeat. However 'Henmania' does seem particularly over the top, even if that is largely due to desperation at the poor state of British tennis.

I agree with Incandenza that it's somewhat distasteful, for a variety of reasons, but mainly that it's an individual sport. It would be acceptable, even expected from what I've seen, in the Davis Cup, which is country against country and about as close to a team sport as tennis gets, but here it's not, particularly in a sport which has such standards that it still fines players for swearing.

The Australians are also fairly partisan in their support. I'd suggest that the Serena Williams situation may have less to do with her being American, and more to do with her being African-American.
