It shocks me that that no-body has started a thread yet, Am I the only Holby fan here. Firstly Rest in peace to Laura, I'm not sure that I agree with Laura's mother's decision to ban George Callis from the funeral, next wednesday after all he was her boyfriend and what they do in their spare time, whether mother agrees or not is up to them.

Shocking, shocking I tell you.
At the risk of saying something deeply unpopular (who am I kidding?) give me one good reason why this deserves a moments thought?
She was a soap actress.
Last year 3.1 million people died of AIDS.
There are thousands of people waiting to be executed around the world.
Soldiers and civilians are dying in Iraq all the time.
A footballer drops in the middle of a football pitch and never regains consciousness.
People die, every second of every hour of every day, murdered, hit by cars, of strokes, cancer, plane crashes, wars and suicide.
Was Laura Sadler any worse than the majority? I'm sure she wasn't (although it's impossible to tell since anyone who dies instantly becomes a model professional, well loved by all their colleagues and probably next in line for sainthood), and I am sure she will be missed by her friends and family.
Was she any better than the majority. No, she was a minor celebrity and got more press coverage over her unfortunate accident than she would have ever got for her career.
I didn't know her anymore than I know the millions of other people who die every day, and I don't like the idea of playing favourites because this person was on television, or played a sport, or sang.
People die every day and to mourn each and every one is an impossible (and meaningless) exercise.
Laura Sadler's friends and family will mourn her passing with genuine cause.
Why anyone else would is a question that baffles me.

I only aguely heard about this and was wondering if there wasn't some issue concerning substance abuse relating to her fall and subsequent death?

In the same vein Incandenza, why should we be worrying about a footballer who unfortunately dropped dead in the middle of a game in very high temperatures?. While very tragic, Laura's death was tragic too, whatever the circumstances. In my case i'd heard of neither til the media coverage.

In the other thread, I commented that I thought the reaction has been predictably ott.
In fact, the only significant difference I would perhaps consider is whether the conditions Foe was playing in were generally unsafe.
Ms Sadler was either unfortunate, or unfortunate but under the influence and more culpable as a result.

What does it matter that they died of AIDS? If I follow your logic, then X many people day a year. Big deal. It's a statistic. If you reduce human beings to numbers, then that's all they'll ever be. You dont grieve for Bob who you never knew down the road, but people grieve for famous people beacause in a way, they DO feel they knew those people, even if its through a character in a soap.

Of course it is, but that is my point - famous people, become part of an extended family, they become part of YOUR life, and it hurts to lose them. You have no love lost for this girl, because she wasn't part of your life, that doesnt mean that applies to everyone else.
