You'll be lucky to find an NHS dentist to take you on. When most new dental surgeries open people queue through the night to get a place. I know if you don't visit my dentist for a year you get kicked off the books without warning. One of the things I'm pleased my mum did was make me go to the dentist every 6 months without fail since I first got teeth and I've not missed a 6 month appointment yet.

Not sure what the waiting lists are like for non NHS dentists 'tho. Hope you get it sorted soon 'cos tooth pain is the worst pain ever

Strangely I found out the other week that I'd been delisted from my dentist for failing to go to the last appointment that I forgot the date on (it was supposed to be months back) It was the only 6 month appt I'd missed ever

Considering they can charge you for failing to turn up I'm surprised I didn't get a letter about it

Luckily it was up to the dentist to relist me and he said yes so I have a shiny NHS appt in a few weeks.

Vinnie sorry to hear you have toothache as its a nasty pain to have (impedes eating and drinking )

The only suggestion would be looking in the yellow pages and start by ringing your nearest dentist. If they won't take you then ask their suggestion for the next dentist along. Needless to say, you are probably looking at a private bill. A colleague's son recently had to go private has he'd moved to London and had a bill of £80 the first time he went for whatever work he had done (I can't remember what it was though sorry )

I know how you feel. I have a major phobia of dentists and hav e done since I was 16. I hate needles and the first I had done on my teeth I needed an injection. I have to be dragged to the dentist now.

Ok, I've got an appointment OCTOBER 16th

But the tooth don;t hurt at the moment so no problem.
It's a newish practice so I might even get NHS listed.

We can't get an NHS listing anywhere so we're private. Cost £25.00 just for a check up. The kids are free though being under 16 which is a relief.

Crikey! Thats expensive. It only costs £15 for a check up at my dentist and it isn't one of the cheapest places around either.

OK, realise I'm a little late with this info, but in case anyone else wants to know you can find your local NHS Dentist at this website:

Although I found using the contact number 0845 4647 more helpful. Tell them where you live and they'll give you the nearest five NHS Dentists and their usual waiting times.

Unfortunately, in my experience (Reading), good NHS Dentists have a waiting time of anything over 2 months. Bad ones (well, unpopular ones really, with poor Dentist Chair Manners) can take bookings just a few days away. Private ones are a lot quicker, but being morally opposed to Private Health Care I refuse to use these, though I appreciate some people don't have a choice.
