Ok when you get free texts and free calls, if you don't use them up in a month are they carried over or do you lose them?

If you lose the phone/or it's stolen, normally you have to pay off the full amount of the contract.

If you break it, same thing, unless you get phone insurance.

Have a look at Virgin Mobiles you don't pay a monthly fee with them and so far I've not had any problems with them

Phone insurance should cover loss of the phone as well as damage.

I bought my contract phone last October (possibly November...) and to be honest I've had a couple of shocking bills (but thats my own fault!) and I thought I'd let you know about a very reasonable insurance thing I got with The Link. Basically you have to pay 13 a month for 10 months (I think) and that covers those 10 months plus the next 3 years and 2 months for virtually anything you can do to your phone (or say you change back to PAYG after your year, so long as you buy from The Link, that phone is covered too), anything from drunken drops in a pint to leaving it on the train etc. Only thing is is that it only covers handset (I think... I'm a bit fuzzy on it now!) so you're still liable to pay the standard monthly cost for the rest of your contract if you lose it/its stolen.

As far as I'm aware your unused minutes don't get carried over with 02
