US sitcom star dies

US actor John Ritter has died. He was 54.

Ritter fell ill on the Hollywood set of his TV series 8 Simple Rules ... For Dating My Teenage Daughter.

The cause of death was a dissection of the aorta, the result of an unrecognised flaw in his heart, confirms his publicist, Lisa Kasteler.

Ritter came to prominence for his role in Three's Company which was originally a British TV series starring Richard O'Sullivan.

The son of 'singing cowboy' Tex Ritter, he is survived by wife Amy and four children.

I had only just read this elsewhere and was quite surprised. I had only heard of him via Buffy, but I believe he was a very popular and versatile actor within the US.

And another at a relatively young age

Wobag Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so...

This is so sad, ive seen him in a few things, he was very funny in all of them. Very talented actor. Great Great shame.

Ah that's sad. I really liked him. I thought he was a really good actor. I used to love Three's Company and he was really funny when he popped up in Ally McBeal and of course he was good as Ted in Buffy. Such a shame.

I'm still in shock/denial/whatever.

Its hard to believe. Another one of those "omg this is happening" moments.

I used to watch Three's Company eps over and over again, and it was always funny, no matter how many times I saw it. John didn't age at all, he still looked the same now (um, earlier this week

) as he did when he acted on Three's Company.

yeah, he was a bit of a baddie as Ted on BTVS, that was not normal for his fans to see him like that. The "cooking skills" part of Ted, tho, *that* was sooooooo "Jack Tripper" lol

He'll be missed!!

I couldn't believe my ears the other morning when i woke up and heard that John Ritter has passed away.

I loved him in Three's Company and could watch that show forever and not get sick of him.

It is so hard to believe that he is gone forever and he will be missed.

I don't know who he is

He played Ted the Robot on the Buffy episode of the same name.

The guy who fell for Joyce that Buffy didn't like and she knocked him down the stairs.
