Feline Helpage

I have 3 cats.

Two of them rip each other to shreds.

I need help.

Ive had my cat, Ella, for 3 years since she was 4 weeks old. Piglet was a spray we took in at chirstmas. Ella lives in my bedroom and Piglet lives in the hall and my mums room.

If Ella gets out of my room and sees Piggy they have massive fights and attack anyone thats near them. We're at the stage where if we let ella out for abit piggy has to go in the livingroom and kitchen with our other cat, which she's fine with. Ella gets on with our boy cat and the dogs fine too. Its just Ella and Piglet that hate each other.

Does anyone have any idea about how they could get used to each other? Or what we could do?

I wont let Ella outside and i know if Piglet was downstairs people would leave the living room door open.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Hmmm... Are they *really* fighting?? Our two, Gwenhwyfar and Pumpkin, fight first thing in the morning, chase each other round the house, roll around kicking and biting etc. That's not bad, technically it's just kitten play still - you see lion cubs on the savannah doing it. And it does look real - they roll around with their teeth in each others' necks. So I reckon that's the first thing to sort out, if it really *is* nasty-fighting. We've always had two cats at all times, and all of them have had fights like this during morning bursts of energy...

We also had two cats who just plain didn't like each other. They still did the fighting thing, and it was never *nasty*, but more often they just kept out of each others' way once they got used to each other...

No, this is real fighting, they dont normaly get hurt, a few scratches here and there. They hiss and spit and really go for each other and after 9 months i thought that would have stopped.

But its got to the stage where if you try and stop them they fly at you and rip you to shreds, my dad's arm got ripped to pieces a few weeks ago and its still not healed properly and there'll be scars.

Have either/both of them been spayed/neutered? Because if not, that could be your problem right there. Every cat I've known has always calmed down (sometimes to the point of being a couch potato!) after being neutered...

We have this problem with our two cats, and one of the tips the vet gave us was, don't separate them.

She also said get the scent from one cat, by rubbing a towel or something on his face and cheeks where they secrete their hormone, and rub it on the other cat, and vice versa.

Also she said, since we were feeding ours on opposite sides of the kitchen, was to move their bowls closer together, and don't make a big thing of trying to keept them apart.

They will fight, thats just the law of things. But after a while they get used to things. It's taken over 2 years with my two, but they are kinda getting ok now.

Thanks kel, we were thinking of something along the lines of that. we were thinking of line a chicken wire door or something so they could see each other all the time.

I've always said we shoudl just let them fight it out, or put them in together with our boy cat, he'll put them both in their place
