I thought this was terribly, terribly sad to hear. I hope he gets well soon, and also that the press leave him alone so he can recover. The Sun's headline this morning was pretty tasteless in my humble opinion (calling him "bonkers Bruno" ) It's a headline like that which helps to stigmatise mental illness/mental health issues and it's something we could all do without.

The Sun's headline this morning was pretty tasteless in my humble opinion (calling him "bonkers Bruno" ) It's a headline like that which helps to stigmatise mental illness/mental health issues and it's something we could all do without.

More on The Sun's headline here They were forced to change their headline after the initial backlash against them.

I feel that the whole situation is very sad and I hope the media will leave him alone to attempt recovery in peace.

well of course they wont leave him alone, they cant leave anyone alone, anything with celebrities must be reported on and exaggerated

there was something in the papers last week about romeo beckham having an accident and needing two stitches when he feel at the bottom of some escalaters well poor dear my nephew had his skull cracked open and needed over 200 and he was only just under a year old.

i only read this article coz i was sent out to get the papers for the old man otherwise i stay away as far as possible coz it's all just rubbish.

What a fuss there was over what happened to little Romeo Beckham!, i just couldn't believe it!!.. he tripped and fell, this happens to all toddlers.. Hannah has had a black eye because she tripped and fell (albeit off a bed) and she's constantly tripping, she's the clumsiest toddler in Great Britain i swear!. Of course the sight of blood on a little one is enough to scare the bejeezus out of anyone (i still remember Joel cutting his chin when he was 2 years old and almost passing out at the blood, but the cut wasn't even an inch long) but you'd think he'd fell down the whole flight of escalator stairs the amount of fuss the press made of it!. Accidents happen, i mean, get over it already

There's something very poignant about people who were such powerful fighters loosing control of their own bodies. Shows it really can happen to any of us.

Wishing the guy a speedy recovery.

With regards to The Sun's headline, I think it demonstrates rather well why I hold the views I've previously expressed here about that particular newspaper. Note how Rebeckha Wade changed the headline not because she realised how wrong it was, but because she was afraid it would cost her sales.

Poor Frank. I hope he gets well soon. I read this about the story today in The Guardian's daily 'Wrap' email...

THE SUN SPRINGS BACK OFF THE ROPES

Can you guess which newspaper has launched a "Fund forF rank", a selfless campaign to help Frank Bruno and others suffering from mental illness? Why, yes, it's The Sun, who yesterday reported the news that former world boxing champion Bruno had been taken into hospital with the first edition headline Bonkers Bruno Locked Up, illustrated by a picture of the heavyweight with Sooty the hand puppet.

Asking its readers to "dig as deep as Big Frank did" when he won the WBC world heavyweight title in 1995, the Sun is quite rightly applauded by mental health charities across the country for its brave decision, which it then shouts about in big letters. Less happily, it appears the paper has been unable to speak to any members of Bruno's family. Goodness knows why.

The Mirror, meanwhile, quotes his former wife Laura as saying that Bruno is "doing really well" in the Essex hospital to which he was admitted on Monday. All the tabloids run messages of support from fans, while both the Guardian and the Times turn their chief sports writers - Richard Williams and Simon Barnes respectively - on to the task of analysing Bruno's rise and fall. More, presumably, tomorrow.

I hadn't realised that the Sun had retracted their original headline, or changed it, but it makes no difference to me, i hold them in the highest contempt possible and no amount of grovelling will make me change my mind. I wouldn't buy their rag if it were the last one left

I actually snorted like a certain pair of girlies from these boards when i caught the story on the fund the Sun started and not even an apology for what they said instead trying to cover it up with money.
