Sounds like originally they were opened via IE when you double clicked them.

Not sure if you get it in Win98, but right click the file, say 'Open With' then it should give you a list of programs. Find the program that used to open them before Mozilla and click the box that says something along the lines of 'Makes this the default program' (It's the only box you can check)

Click OK, and that should be it

If all the docs still have the flame symbol on them it sounds like you haven't fully deleted all of it from the pc, normally when a program I download takes over (as I say) all my picture docs, once I remove the program the docs revert back to what was the original program.

Sorry though I havent a clue what to do, if you were using ME I would say System restore but your not

I thought I had removed it all 'cos I can't see anything else left on there.

Failing that go into a program you would normally use to open the pics and do the usual 'File..Open..' saga, see if that helps...

EDIT - As an afterthought, when it finally realises that Mozilla isn't there, does it let you choose anything after that?

Another thought, try holding shift down while you right click the file, and then there should be an 'Open with...' option. Hopefully.

Similar thing, but can you tell me what type of pictures they are ? jpgs, gifs etc.

What you need to do is go to My Computer, Tool, Folder Options and check the file types.

This will tell you which programme the files are defaulted to open with and you can change it from there. Chances are that they were originally defaulted to open with IE then you made Mozilla your default. It will be easy to follow the options to use another programme (maybe a photoshop or something similar) to open them with

Is that in Win 98? I didn't think it was that easy from what (little) I remember... I thought it asked you to go and start messing about with various commands.

The theory is the same for most versions of windows, I've had to deal with 95, 98, 2000 & NT over the years at work for the same thing. The easiest version is however 2000 at the moment as in it lays the type of file in alphabetical order (so if you are looking for jpg its under "j" far much easier )
