My mum really likes him. I remember when I was little we had a Gerald Scarfe poster on our kitchen wall. Shame I didn't know about this. Maybe she can get to teh exhibit.
Just been to see Gerald Scarfe at the National Gallery
For those who don't know him, he's the cartoonist who drew the 'Yes Minister' title sequence.
National Portrait Gallery to be exact, not sure how much you can cram into a title.
Top evening, he's as funny (though not anywhere like as acerbic) in person as he is on the page. Great talk giving a potted history of British satire over the past half century, with gloriously irrelevent tangents onto Pink Floyd albums and, of all things, the Disney flic 'Hercules' (I never realised he designed the bugger!). The exhibition is well worth seeing; the pic of Major and Rotten Eggs and a well-deserved savaging of Tracy Emin are particularly evil highlights.
Got a book and a poster signed, and managed to bring up the censored cartoon of Diana right in front of the guy who had it censored!
If they want to be "relevent", then get some more of this in our museums instead of all those shabby film exhibitions I say!
