So what if they are very different sports, the comparison comes from the fact that they were two world cup finals in which England were playing. I found the parallels between the two events interesting and I thought some other people might too.

Most rugby fans wont be ramming the 2003 win down your throat for the next 37 years. Why is that, well because in the rugby we actually stand a good chance of winning something else in the interim.
Most football fans don't ram the 1966 vicory down peoples throats either. The Media do that. and I'd imagine that The Media will now choose to harp on about the Rugby victory quite a lot... Lets face it, thats all items about the England Cricketers are full of at the moment.
I don't understand why there is this level of resentment between fans of the two different sports. Its a national achivement to take pride in and I'm sure that come Euro 2004 there will be plenty of comparisons between this years rugby win and the successes (or lack of them) of next years football team.
