Gulf War 1: Being five or six years old, I was either sleeping or at school when all that started... it didn't really register on my radar either way!

Princess Di: Found out that morning, turned on Nickelodeon and they had a thing about turning to Sky news or something. At that point already a hardened republican, it didn't really bother me

9/11: I was at school but about lunchtime I went home ill and ended up watching the news all afternoon.

Gulf war - No idea, too young to remember.

Princess Di - when she died, i was partying at mum's b/day party. dancing to Gloria, probably. When i heard, recovering from a massive hangover.

9/11 - at work. i couldnt get onto any web sites for more info so i quit early and went home to watch the news channels.

Gulf War - i don't remember it at all, i was only young

Princess Diana - my mum woke me up and told me, i remember i still had bunk beds and i remember it not really meaning much to me at first cos i was only youngish, but then during the day it sunk in, because Prince Harry was only a couple of years older than me and his mum had died, so that kinda shook me up a bit

9/11: at that time i would have been in my biology lesson, and i had no idea until about 4ish when my dad told me and steph in the car. i thought he was joking, and it didn't sink in until i came home and saw it for myself.

Mum didn't mention the Gulf War1 but then I was only 5.

Princess Di - I was in bed but woke up to see my mum devestated. Tried to hold the tears in but finally broke down as I saw Harry and William being so brave.

9/11 - I was at school and my mate was staying with me, we'd stayed late at school and when my mum picked us up she said "have you heard the news...war's been declared on America!" I was like huh?!? I was annoyed as the school had decided not to tell us. She told me all about it and we listened to the radio on the way to get a curry. I remember crying loads because I was partially raised in America, we had friends and family in all the places that were hit and we were supposed to be in New York at the time but we changed our mind at the last minute. I spent the whole night in tears watching the tv. It was devestating.

Gulf War - I was at High school. We had been expecting it for some time, seeing as it had been announced the preceeding september. Wasn't really the big news in Norway as our king died that day...

Princess Diana's death - I was in bed at home. My radio alarm-clock had gone and I slept through it hearing snippets of the breaking story. When I finally awoke It felt like a weird dream and my first thought was "that's gotta be the sickest april folls joke ever"
Took a while before it clicked that it was the last day of august....

9/11 I was at work. One of the guys was running around telling everyone a plane had hit one of the trade centre towers.
My initial thought was "well the Empire State Building survived a B-25 bomber hitting it in 1941, what the biggy?"
By this time we were all watching it on our desktops on sky news, and then the second tower got hit and it was clear this was no accident....

Gulf War - I don't remember. :-/


Princess Diana's death - I was in Germany on my year abroad and I heard something about "Diana" and "Tod" on the radio, which kind of threw me for a second as I wasn't really listening. So me and my boyfriend sat listening to the German radio station picing together what had happened.


9/11 - I was at work and the customer I was on the phone with made some vague comment about a plane hitting some big building. It wasn't until one of the sales reps came up and told us exactly what had happened that we all went online to find out what was going on.

Gulf War 1- No clue, seeing as I was about four years old at the time.

Princess Di- I remember finding out about it when I came back from church (back when I actually went to church..)

9/11- When it actually happened, I was either in the sick room at my highschool, or at the doctor's. I didn't find out about it until I got home from the doctor and switched on the tv.. Both planes had already gone in and they were showing the footage of people running away from the buildings.. I was really ill with an ear infection so I was a bit dizzy anyway and I remember feeling completely lost. It looked like a movie. I basically watched CNN for the next week straight while I was off school.

Gulf War?
Don't know. Probably asleep (what a surprise! ) but doubt I would have cared or understood, being only 6 at the time...

Princess Di?
Was asleep. Woken up by my little sister who for some inexplicable reason, seemed to think I'd care. Desperately tried to ignore her. Rolled over and went back to sleep. Repeat steps 1-4. Repeat to fade. (Did any of that make sense?)

Sept. 11th?
Something I was a) awake during and b) actually cared about, I was quite literally walking through the front door at home and had just 3-4 mins to collapse on the sofa and find out what was going on before the first tower collapsed.

Yep, it's a Simpsons quote- can't remember the name of the episode, but it's the one where the mayor's nephew is supposed to have attacked a french waiter and Bart is the only witness. Marge says it.

..Princess Diana died? On holiday in Centerparcs and was trying to find the cartoons on TV in the morning, was getting wound up because it was all news so my dad came out and put telly text on and it said Diana and Dodi killed in car crash. For some reason that moment is still really clear in my head!

9/11 i was in edinburgh staying with ELC for a short break, i got a text from ethan and elc saying what had happened and went into my fave pub and it was on all the screens i was there was hours watching it.

Princess Di - Getting ready to go out with the ATC and it was all over the news, figured it was someone important as they were on every channel.

Another one I won't forget was the Dublane shootings. I was off school ill at the time and was waiting for Neighbours to come on when I heard it.

Princess Diana, I was downstairs watching TV when it came on, and I ran upstairs to tell my mum and she didn't beleive me

And Sepetmber 11th.. I had come home from school and my mum was listening to the radio, and she told me about it, and I didn't actually have a clue what she was going on about.

Heavily pregnant and so bothered about being size of elephant din't take notice till forced to watch at about 5ish, and remember being gobsmacked at events!
