I think some of the peeps on here go to a place called Hobbycraft - I don't know if that's the sort of place you're after, but as there isn't one near me I have no idea.....

i'm after lots of different types of fabrics, some i need a lot of. does anyone know any good places in london to shop for fabrics that will be cheap and have a good selection?

Well normally curtain shops (which make their own) will have leftovers which if you ask you can normally buy for very little as they normally can't use it anymore anyways as it's too small for their needs.
My mum needed loads of material for a play they where doing and got it that way (some even for free). But that was in the Netherlands but I guess it's worth a try over here

Depends what types of fabric your after.
for clothing fabric go to the markets in Walthemstow.DEAD CHEAP!!
for curtain fabric id try and fabric world shop.
Other than that theres a great fabric shop in North London called Reams and Rems that do lots of good quality good priced fabric and they also sell of lots of remenants cheap too.

I'm having a major clear out at work next week and will be throwing out loads of fabric - various colours & types. Lots of ends of rolls left over from doing displays/windows etc.. I usually ask the staff in the stores if they want them otherwise they go into the bin (my god-daughter's school, quite handy for last Christmas production of Joseph)

erm, well i could do with lots of a nice shiny lilac fabric to make a big dress, a lot of a greyish green to make a cloak and a light brown and a dark brown suede material to make a long jerkin type top. I'll owe you big time if you do have anythinglike that, i'd be your personal superhero bodyguard.
