Well basically a prisoners enviroment etc are also based on the political views of the government on the subject. Do we put 1 or 2 prisoners in one cell etc.

Also if you are in jail for like a month or 2 for some form of tax fraude (or whatever) and just in that time there are elections and you couldn't vote but you get out in like 3 days you have to live in country for the next 4 years in which you had no say in how it was ruled.....

Prisoners are imprisoned and have some of their freedoms take away from them as a penalty. Doesn't mean you can rob them from all their "rights" (although for some crime you start to wonder....)

I thought prison was supposed to be a form of punishment...

I like to look at it as politicans finally getting the electorate they deserve.

Personally I'm with Rousseau on this one. You are in prison (presuming the verdict is just) because you have failed to live by the rules of society. You cannot therefore expect to continue living with the same rights and priveledges as a free citizen.

It is as ludicrous to allow them the right to vote as it is to allow them to sign on during their incarsaration. Or, for that matter, freedom of speech and movement.

This does not mean we should treat them worse than we would a wild animal. There is a minimum standard to which we should treat all human life, in the hope we would be treated the same were our positions reversed. But voting is not a human right, it is a right of citizenship.
