I suppose it explains why no-one raised an eyebrow during the general election when I arrived at a campaign rally dressed for the Nos night that was happening immediately afterwards.
Party activists - like policemen - seem to be getting younger every day. The evidence is in the new, third edition of Who's Who in the Liberal Democrats? which is published this weekend at the Spring conference in Manchester.
The list of recreational activities shows just how much the average age of the membership has been lowered in the past couple of years.
Fun, clubbing, bouncing, naughtiness, pop concerts and making people smile are among the things younger entrants in the book do when they're not pounding pavements delivering leaflets.
Favoured reading appears to be Harry Potter, while Buffy the Vampire Slayer tops the TV charts
And can you imagine any of our more senior citizens listing Rock'n Rave, Blue Scream or Outrage, as their clubs?
