End of the world as we know it: Bush wins US election
The American ABC network has just declared Florida for Bush. Kerry is behind in Ohio. Looks like it's all over.
Four more years.

Anyone got a good planet to emigrate to?

Yup. Have you noticed how everyone is using that 'War Against ...' as a catch phrase for any old cause now. There's even a advert for some breakfast cereal that says 'In the war against junk food' or something like that. Ughhhh!
It's a perfect umbrella term for any political cause you want to sell people this week.
And don't get me started on Weapons of Mass Destruction... grrr.

To be fair to the US, when the meltdown does happen it probably wont be just them. The huge growth in China's economy means that they could become the next real threat as far as pollution is concerned, and I imagine they will be just as reticent about cutting emissions.

- The most powerful nation on earth becoming a religious theocracy run by a man described as "fascist" by those who know.

I recall a comment about Pat Robertson when he was running for the Repbulican nomination years ago: "I do not think a man who believes he can change the direction of a hurricane through the power of prayer should have his finger on the nuclear button"

Although he is an evil evil homophobe war-monger, in his defence he employs black people in high places, which other US presidents haven't done to the extent he has. And he's just replaced Colin Powell with a black woman, which is the first in history.
So at least that's something...

That means absolutely nothing to me. I don't care what color the folks are. If they share his views, I am not going to cheer about it. Condoleeza (or however you spell it) Rice was a terrible National Security Advisor. I mean she did a lousy job in her last post. So what happens? She gets rewarded with a promotion. And since she doesn't have a mind of her own and doesn't seem willing to ever stand up to him on anything--probably because she agrees with him on all of his ruinous policies, there is NO reason to feel good about this appointment. Bush doesn't get any props from me because he appoints a few black tokens to his cabinet.

Posted: 18:34 Nov 21 2004 Good luck to Bush on that getting black votes thing. I can tell you now, it ain't happening. Black people vote overwhelmingly Democratic--and went overwhelmingly for Kerry--and Bush's appointment of his pal Condoleeza isn't going to change that.

Bush and the Republicans didn't get the black vote in the last electrion. He didn't get the Latino vote--except maybe the Cubans in South Florida who are still fighting some kind of weird war against Castro from the comfort and safety of Miami. He didn't get the Asian-American vote, and he didn't get the American Indian vote. Those are generally Democratic blocks and each of those groups went for Kerry in the last election. He also didn't get the progressive white vote. He can appoint as many token Latinos, blacks, Asians, and American Indians as he wants to his cabinet, he's only going to get those voting blocks if they see that Republican policies earn their votes.
Of course, the greater the turnout of people in those voting blocks, the greater the chance that Bush and people like him don't win--which is why they actually DON'T want people from those groups to vote in large numbers. And that's why the Republicans were out in black neighborhoods in urban areas and on American Indian reservations (just to name two) with their dirty tricks squads trying to intimidate people and depress voting turnout.
