Oh i have been talking about this most of last week. and all due to the goverment deciding to help people improve thier chances of not smoking anymore. Even though i watched the anoucment on the news i still said outloud "so where will they get there money from then?" the answer came to mind right afterwards, they will legalise drugs.

I could see it working, i mean the big fish importers will loose out on tons of cash, the stuff would be cleaner to use and cheeper to buy, for a few years atleast then they would start taxing that like they did cigaretts

All drugs should be legal and people should be free to deal whatever drug they choose. Not just for John Stuart Mill's reason that the law shouldn't tell people what to do with their own bodies, but because the social effects of prohibition are so damiging. You could still punish dealers who were reckless with other people's lives. If someone dies because of a dodgy narcotic you sold them, and you hadn't made the risks clear to them, you should be responsible as you would for selling them any other dangerous good.

There should continue to be stiff penalties for dealing hard drugs to people under 18.

Politicians who deliberately ignore evidence for easy headlines when making policy should be thrown of office, but that would lead to acres of green benches!

I agree with Byron, what should be done is a no-brainer. But will the law change? It would surprise me if anyone in power took such a big step against the status quo.

As it turns out, they're not. No such plans showed up in the proposed drugs bill, and the suspicion me and friends have is that the government had the thing planted in the media to provide cover for less draconian measures they wanted to push through. The naughty arseheads.

Our other theory is that the Daily Moron, who started the story on Monday, are incompetent examples of failed birth control who didn't check their sources.

Neither would surprise me.
