If they want to sell music, they should start making music that's good enough that people actually want to buy it...

Maybe if CD prices weren't artificially inflated CD sales wouldn't drop. Maybe if the industry concentrated on supporting actual talent instead of latching onto whatever is the latest pop craze guaranteed to rake in the cash, regardless of what it is, CD sales wouldn't drop. Maybe if viable alternatives were made available instead of just downloading the tracks for free (iTunes isn't perfect but it's a step in the right direction) companies could actually make some money off internet downloading instead of just bitching about it.

I came across a great idea the other week: change copyright law so it only applies when someone tries to make a profit off a pirated work.

Get the music companies off their complacent arses nicely that would.

Interestingly, I read in the paper recently that UK album sales have been their highest ever this year.

So much for "downloading is eeeeevil and will destroy music 4 eva"

Yup, the declining cd sales thing is pure bunk.

Singles sales have dropped, but that's because people have realised that they're just not worth it (£4-5 for a single, or around £10 for the album from somewhere like cdwow.. hmm, tough choice..)

Sad isn't it? Back in my day *creaky old person* you had to sell a shedload of records to make number 1 and it actually meant something.

This week Band Aid sold 300,000 copies to get to number 1 - great. That figure was actually more that the rest of the top 40 put together.

I think you need to sell about 6 records for a chart position now. That Nadia person from BB sold 1800 and still charted in the 20's somewhere.
